Girls Golf: Mandan wins Williston Invite for fourth tournament victory of season
Different tournament, same result for the Mandan girls golf team, which claimed its fourth victory of the season on Thursday, Aug. 28, by winning the Williston Invite at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.
The Braves finished with a team score of 312, winning the tournament by 19 strokes over Minot North. It was the Sentinels third runner-up finish this season, also placing second at the Turtle Mountain Invitational and the Watford City Invite. Bismarck Legacy (341), Williston (351) and both Bismarck St. Mary’s (365) and Dickinson (365) rounded out the top five in the 12-team competition.
Stray Ressler took home medalist honors for the Braves, shooting a 2-over 74 to win the event by three strokes over both Lola Huber of St. Mary’s and Minot North’s Emersyn Kopp. Mandan’s Isabella Hale and Minot North’s Kinzy Welstad both carded 78s to place in the top five. The Braves placed their top four golfers in the top seven overall.
Ressler birdied two of the final three holes and had three birdies on her round. Kopp was 1-under through her first five holes and also finished with three birdies. Huber had an individual-best six birdies, but also carded a quadruple bogey on 12 and a double bogey on 17.
The Sentinels had three golfers place in the top 20, with Katelyn Bast coming in tied for 18th with an 87.
Minot High finished 11th overall with a team score of 398. Katie Thomas led the Magicians with an 86 and finished 17th overall.
Next up on the calendar is the Dickinson Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at Heart River Golf Course.
