NWL HR challenge to feature Minot players
Members of the Minot Hot Tots and Minot Honeybees will participate in the All-Star Game Home Run Challenge in Madison, WI on Tuesday, July 15.
The Home Run Challenge will be a nine inning game and each player will be given a half inning to hit as many home runs as possible. Each half inning will be just two minutes long with each participant being given a thirty second timeout that they can take anytime during the initial time. Should a player hit back to back homeruns, they will be given an extra thirty seconds to add on to the end of their initial time.
The game will feature players from the Great Lakes and Great Plains Divisions, including the Hot Tots’ Henry Allen and Honeybees’ Taylor Chillingworth. Henry Allen is the homerun leader of the Northwoods League heading into Tuesday’s derby with 14 for the season. Allen has a batting average of .366 and also leads the league in hits with 70. He is also tied with Ethan Surowiec of the Duluth Huskies in league RBIs with 50.
Honeybees’ shortstop Taylor Chillingworth is tied for third in the league for home runs with Mia Johnson at seven. She has a batting average of .269 and 21 hits in 78 at bats. Chillingworth and Johnson are the home run leaders for the Great Plains division in softball going into the derby. Hilary Blomberg of the Madison Night Mares is the home run leader for the Great Lakes Division and the league heading into Tuesday with a total of eight for the season.
The Great Lakes and Great Plains divisions will go head-to-head with whichever team hitting more home runs in their allotted time will be crowned the NWL HR Challenge Team Champions. The individual who hits the most home runs will be named the NWL HR Challenge Individual Champion.
The derby will take place at Warner Park, home of the Madison Mallards and Madison Night Mares Tuesday night after the Honeybees/Night Mares game. The softball game will begin at 5:05 p.m. at Warner Park.
