Modified tour returns to Nodak Speedway

Nathan Beitler/MDN Modified cars race around the bend at Nodak Speedway during the World of Outlaws series on Sunday, June 29. Modified races will return to Nodak on Sunday as part of the Dakota Classic Modified Tour & Stock Car Tour.
The Dakota Classic Modified Tour & Stock Car Tour will make its way to Nodak Speedway this weekend as part of the 2025 post-season.
The Dakota Classic Modified Tour had its inaugural season in 1990 and is the largest and longest running IMCA-sanctioned tour in the country.
Ethan Braaksma of Newton, Iowa, is last year’s winner of the modified tour. He accumulated 195 points over five races. He earned a top five placement in all five features that he raced.
Braaksma raced at Nodak during last year’s modified tour series. He took first place in his heat race and finished second in the feature. Braaksma has officially registered for this year’s tour, meaning he is returning to defend his title.
The modified tour has not had a back-to-back champion since 2018, when Hunter Marriott of Brookfield, Missouri, finished first in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
The Dakota Classic was originally a three-race series. The first season started with races only at Dacotah Speedway, Jamestown Speedway and Nodak Speedway, but founder John Gartner expanded the series in 1991 to what it is today.
For this year’s series, racers will have the chance to compete in six different days at six different raceways.
The first night of racing will begin Saturday at the Jamestown Speedway. Sunday will see the tour head to Nodak Speedway in Minot before moving to Estevan Motor Speedway on July 7. The Williston Basin Speedway will be the next track to host the series on Tuesday. Southwest Speedway will hold the fifth night of the series, and the last day of the Dakota Classic Modified Tour will be held at Dacotah Speedway on Thursday.
While the tour originally only featured modified cars, the stock car tour was added in 2008. Both tours first began following the same circuit in 2010.
Cameron Starry of Corpus Christi, Texas, will be making his return to the Dakota Classic Stock Car Tour this year after finishing in first place last year with 186 total points out in the five races. Last year, Starry took fourth place during his heat race at Nodak Speedway and came in eighth during the feature race.
The stock car tour has not seen a back-to-back champion since 2018 when Elijah Zevenbergen of Ocheyedan, Iowa won his fourth consecutive championship. Starry is looking to defend his title during this year’s tour.
