McCreadie slingshots from 12 to 1 at Nodak

Nathan Beitler/MDN Tim McCreadie (No. 9m) takes the inside corner during the World of Outlaws Late Model series at Nodak SPeedway in Minot Sunday night. McCreadie took home first place after starting in twelfth.

Tim McCreadie ran the dirt at Nodak Speedway Sunday night for an event the Magic City waited 36 years for.

Sunday night’s event was the first time Minot hosted the World of Outlaws series since 1989. McCreadie first began his racing career in the Super DIRTcar Series, but after 23 wins, he set his sight on Late Model racing. In 2006, he won the World of Outlaws Late Models championship and has not looked back.

Since then, McCreadie has also earned wins in the World 100, Prairie Dirt Classic, USA Nationals and Gopher 500. On Sunday, he brought his decades of experience to Nodak.

Sunday night’s victory did not come easy for McCreadie. He began the final race of the night in 12th position, the sixth row behind leader Bobby Pierce.

Pierce dominated his races earlier in the evening. He took first place during his heat race, beating seven other drivers in eight laps, with a best lap time of 18.047 seconds. He was also the winner of the Simpson Quick Time Award and the Bilstein Pole Award.

Pierce quickly fell behind the second starter, Ethan Dodson early into the final race. Through the majority of the race, the lead was a three-way competition between Pierce, Dodson and Drake Troutman. While they battled for the lead, McCreadie fought tooth and nail up the ranks from twelfth place. With just under ten laps to go, McCreadie snuck his way into third. From there, a few solid turns left McCreadie out front, and he kept his lead until the end of the race.

Sunday night’s win boosted McCreadie’s standing for this season, putting him just ten points behind fourth place Drake Troutman. Bobby Pierce ended Sunday night’s race in second place and broke the track record. Nick Hoffman took home third. Pierce is still ranked first for the season with 2994 points. Pierce congratulated McCreadie in a post on social media on Monday. He expressed his appreciation for the fans and the track and said that he was looking forward to racing in Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Speedway.

“That’s the thing I like to see. A racetrack that I’ve never really heard of before & they bring in a national touring series & put on a great show [with] a 3-wide lead change in the closing laps in front of a packed house. That’s what NoDak Speedway in Minot, ND accomplished last night,” Pierce said in his post. “It’s officially on the map.”

Sunday night’s race was McCreadie’s third win and seventh top five finish of the season. McCreadie was the series’ first winner at Nodak since Mitch Johnson won it in 1989.

Starting at $2.99/week.
