Honeybees steamrolled by La Crosse, 15-4
A night after snapping a season-high four game losing streak, the Minot Honeybees suffered yet another lopsided loss Wednesday, surrendering 15 runs in just five innings in a 15-4 loss to La Crosse in a mercy-shortened contest.
La Crosse’s Skyler Dietz outproduced the entire Honeybees lineup by herself, knocking in seven runs and coming around to score twice as part of a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate. Dietz notched her first RBI in the bottom of the first on a 2-out single to left field, scoring Calli Janik from second.
Deitz’s night was far from finished as she blasted a grand slam to left in her second at-bat as part of a 6-run second inning to put the Steam in front 10-0. La Crosse would tack on five more runs in the third. With the bases loaded once again, Dietz capped off her night with a two-run single.
La Crosse (4-12) collected 14 hits. Janik was also perfect at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Grace Frechette and Rachel Mori also brought in runs for the Steam. Eight of La Crosse’s starters had at least one hit.
The Honeybees (8-8) got on the board in the fifth, scoring all four of their runs in the frame. Sydney Farmer singled home Trinity Gregg and Virginia Mambelli, and Olivia Hernandez plated Farmer with an RBI single to right.
Wednesday’s loss was the third straight defeat by double figures and tied for the most runs surrendered in a game this season. In their last three losses, Minot has been outscored 42-8.
The Honeybees return to action on Saturday when they host Mankato at 5:05 p.m. The game follows the Minot Hot Tots’ contest against Bismarck at 1:05 p.m. at Corbett Field.
