Champions crowned in Junior Olympic Softball State Tournament

Nine teams across five age divisions captured state championships over the weekend, as Minot played host to the 2025 Junior Olympic Girls’ Fast Pitch State Tournament.

Split between Scheels Complex and Sertoma Sports Complex, 79 teams descended on the Magic City looking to leave a state champion.

The Minot Storm youth program had plenty to celebrate as tournament host, winning four state titles in the under-10 B Division, under-12 B Division, under-16 B Division and under-18 C Division.

The Minot Storm 10U Blue squad went a perfect 4-0 in the B division tournament , amassing 39 runs en route to a championship over Dakota in the double-elimination tournament.

The Minot Storm 12U Blue team came from the loser’s bracket to claim its state crown. The Storm dropped their opening contest to Fargo/Moorhead 9-8, but ran through the loser’s bracket, eliminating Dakota Black, Dakota Gold, Grand Forks and Dickinson Black to set up a championship against Bismarck, in which Minot needed to win twice. They did just that, winning the opener 7-5 before taking the winner-take-all showdown 8-4.

In the 16U division, Minot Storm Blue played a trio of nail-bitters, but won them all. Following a first-round bye, Minot snuck by Fargo/Moorhead Blue 3-2 before toppling Dickinson 11-9 in the semifinals. A 7-6 victory over West Fargo United in the championship game capped another title for the youth program.

The Minot Storm still had one more title in them at the 18U level and much like their 12U team, they had to come out of the loser’s bracket to do it. Minot dropped a close 11-10 decision to Fargo/Moorhead Blaze White, but stayed alive by eliminating Carrington 13-9 to set up a rematch with Fargo/Moorhead. Minot outscored the Blaze 36-11 in the pair of victories to get their revenge.

It wasn’t just Minot collecting all the hardware. There were other teams that took home the designation of state champions. The Beulah Pride topped a field of 13 teams to win the 10U C Division title, including a victory over its other Beulah program in the championship game. Beulah won its title behind solid defense, pitching a pair of shutouts and only allowing six runs in four contests.

The Bismarck Sparks took home two titles on the day, the first in the 12U C Division. Bismarck advanced to the semifinal before falling to West Fargo 9-0. But the Sparks kept their tournament hopes alive by defeating Bottineau to get another chance at West Fargo in the championship. They took the first game 12-6 before claiming the title with a 12-8 decision in the second game.

Bismarck’s other title came in the 14U B Division, denying Minot another crown in the process. The Sparks took out Minot 15-0 in the semifinals and posted a decisive 10-2 victory in the championship to complete an undefeated run through the bracket.

The other two state champions were the Cass-Traill Blazers in the 14U C Division and the Williston Boom in the 18U B Division. Cass-Traill went undefeated until the championship game, which saw the Blazers drop the opener to Casselton 11-7. But Cass-Traill bounced back and won the winner-take-all contest 14-6. Williston’s path was nearly identical. The Boom entered the championship game unblemished but fell 7-3 to Casselton in the opener only to regroup and post an 11-0 victory in the finale.
