Beavers add star guard from Lake Land College

Sean De Kovachich

Looking to add to the Beavers’ recent success, new Minot State men’s basketball coach Randall Herbst continues to build a talented roster for the upcoming season.

To that end, Herbst is pleased to announce the newest addition to the Minot State lineup in junior guard Sean De Kovachich, a transfer from Lake Land College (Ill.).

“Sean had a great 2-year run at Lake Land College under coach Julian Larry,” Herbst said. “He’s a long, athletic wing who can score. He’s dynamic off the bounce, can create his own shot, and gets to the free-throw line a lot.

“He’s coming from a winning program and a team that was top 10 in the country in scoring,” Minot State’s coach added. “Beaver basketball got better today!!”

A 6-foot-5 guard from Montreal, Quebec, De Kovachich led the Lakers in scoring his freshman season and averaged 13.6 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the field (295-of-601) during his two years at Lake Land. He added 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game along with 62 steals in 58 contests.

“Sean is a hard-working player who is driven for success,” Lake Land’s Coach Larry said. “His motivation and determination will take him a long way in life.”

De Kovachich played high school basketball at Fort Erie International Academy in Ontario and finished his senior season alongside his brother, Kevin, at Orangeville Prep in Mono, Ontario before spending his first two collegiate seasons at Lake Land in Illinois.

“I believe God places us where we’re meant to be and everything about Minot State just felt right,” De Kovachich said. “I’m trusting the process and ready to walk into this next chapter with faith and fire. Minot State saw something in me not just as an athlete, but as a person.

“I’m coming here with a chip on my shoulder and something to prove. This is about legacy, not just stats.”
