Both players received the award for 2025 NDHSCA Class A Boys Golf Co-Senior Athletes of the Year.

The Minot High boy’s golf team earned their first ever state title at the 2025 Class A Boys State Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 4.

It was a close game coming into the second round of the tournament on Wednesday. The Sentinels were two strokes behind Grand Forks Red River, winners of the East Dakotan Conference Regional Tournament, at the end of the previous day. Winning the state tournament was the end goal for the team, and they were so close to achieving it.

Junior Kyler Weishaar started the Sentinels out strong at 8:16 a.m. on Wednesday morning scoring an easy birdie on the first hole. He earned two more birdies and two bogies on the front nine to end one under par for 35. The back nine was a little bit rougher for Weishaar, taking four bogies and one double bogie to end the round five over part with 77 strokes. Weishaar ranked 22nd individually with an overall score of 156.

Freshman Teegan Dangel started on the tenth hole of the course at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday morning. He scored seven strokes better in the second round of the tournament, ending with a round score of seven over par with 79 strokes. His combined round scores gave him an overall score for the tournament of 164.

The next player to tee off for the Sentinels was senior Tylaer Bast. He began at the tenth hole at 8:34 a.m. with an even par. He fell behind during the front half of the course and ended the day with a score of 16 over par with 88 strokes. His total stroke count for the tournament was 172.

The next Minot High golfer, junior Walter Langhans, did not begin until 9:01 a.m. at the first hole of the course. He kept a consistent front half, scoring par on every hole but two. The back half was just as consistent, leaving him only two over par at the end of the day. He had a total stroke count of 150 and earned fifth place individually.

Senior Bennett Bartsh was the penultimate golfer for the Sentinels on Wednesday. He began his round at 9:10 a.m. on the first hole of the course with a birdie. He earned two more in the front nine and one more in the back nine. Those combined with his bogies for the round gave him a score of 4 over par with 76 strokes. His overall score for the tournament was 154.

The final golfer for Minot North on Wednesday was senior Kasen Rostad. Rostad earned three birdies and four bogies to bring his round score to just one over par with 73 strokes, the same score as the first round. Rostad ended the tournament two over par and tied for second place individually.

“[Winning state] feels amazing to be honest,” said Rostad. “It’s a dream come true, for not only me but everyone on our team. We knew at the start of the year that this was our end goal and to accomplish exactly that is unreal. I’m so proud of our team. Today is a day that our team will cherish for the rest of our lives.”

Rostad was also one of two winners of the 2025 NDHSCA Class A Boys Golf Co-Senior Athletes of the Year along with Porter Seidel of Fargo Davies. Minot North coach Shane Hennegrafs was also named the 2025 NDHSCA Class A Boys Golf Coach of the Year.

This is Minot North’s first state golf title since opening. The tournament was held at the Vardon Golf Club in Minot.
