Hot Tots play second series against Mankato

The Minot Hot Tots ended their Friday night game in extra innings against the Willmar Stingers and played their rematch series against the Mankato MoonDogs Saturday and Sunday.

The Hot Tots entered the tenth inning of their Friday night game against the Stingers with a score of 8-8. The Stingers had a strong showing in the top of the inning, scoring three runs before the Hot Tots could secure their three outs.

The Stingers scored their first run of the inning unearned on the second at-bat of the half. They scored their second on a single into right field that brought a runner home. The Stingers scored their last run during their next at-bat on a double into right field, bringing the score to 8-11 for the Stingers at the end of the top.

The Hot Tots were unable to swing the momentum back their way with the first three batters being called out. The game ended 8-11 for the Stingers.

Saturday’s game against the Mankato MoonDogs marked the rematch series and last time the teams would meet at Corbett Field until July 29.

The first two innings totaled zero runs and the first run of the game came in the top of the third inning for the MoonDogs. The Hot Tots first scored in the fourth inning when Christian Stratis hit a double into center field to bring Matt Toomey home from second base.

The MoonDogs scored another run in the top of the fifth, eight in the sixth and six in the seventh. The Hot Tots were not able to score again before the end of the game, leaving the score 1-16 for the MoonDogs.

Sunday’s game was the last game in the first rematch series for the Hot Tots against the MoonDogs.

The Hot Tots started out strong in the second inning of the game. Christian Stratis rocketed a homerun over the left field fence during his first at-bat in the game. Charlie Kalbrener then followed up with another single homerun over the center field fence during the very next at-bat to make the score 2-0 for the Hot Tots at the end of the inning.

The MoonDogs scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning off of their own single homerun. Their next two runs came in the fifth inning off of a two-run home run over the right field fence. They earned three more runs in the seventh inning and their last run of the game was scored in the eighth.

The Hot Tots did not score another run after their first two until the ninth inning. Jacob Pearl scored on a single hit by Noah Dreier. It was their only run of the inning. The game ended with a score of 3-7 for the MoonDogs.

The Hot Tots will be playing the Duluth Huskies at Wade Stadium Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10.
