The Minot High and Minot North boys’ golf teams competed in Wednesday’s 2025 West Region Boys’ Golf Tournament and have qualified to compete in the state tournament.

Minot North High School came in second place during the tournament with an overall score of 305, just two strokes behind the tournament winner and defending WDA champion, Century High School.

Minot North’s first seeded player and top golfer for the event was senior Kasen Rostad. Rostad came in third place individually with a 73, just one over par.

Rostad started out Wednesday’s round strong at 11:09 a.m. with a birdie on the first hole. He sank the ball in three strokes on the 394 yard hole. He kept the momentum going strong through the next two holes of the course, taking par on the second and another birdie on the third.

Holes four and five proved to be slightly more challenging for Rostad, as he dropped a bogey on each.

He kept even until the eight hole where he earned another bogey and ended the front nine one over par with 37 strokes.

Rostad was able to bring himself back to par during the eleventh hole with another birdie, but two more bogeys on holes 12 and 13 brought him to two over par.

He was able to secure another birdie on hole 15 to make the back nine an even par with 36 strokes.

“As a team, we played some good rounds of golf, but we didn’t get as many birdies as we wish we had,” said Rostad. “You have to keep yourself in a good headspace.”

Rostad said that he team has mostly nailed down their driving, but they could still work on their mid-iron and short game. He said that future rounds may come down to who is going to putt and chip the best.

Next week’s state golf tournament will be Rostad’s fifth.

Minot High’s top golfer for the tournament was senior Fischer Johnson. Johnson was seeded fifth on the team going into the tournament.

Johnson started his round on the first hole at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. He started off strong on the first four holes, picking up par on each one except for the second where he hit a birdie.

He started to fall behind midway through the front nine, picking up three bogeys on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes. He ended the front nine two over par with 38 strokes.

Johnson dropped three bogeys on the tenth, twelfth and eighteenth holes, but was able to pick up a birdie on the eleventh and fifteenth holes, bringing him to just one over par on the back nine with 37 strokes.

Johnso ended the round three over par with 75 strokes and was ranked seventh individually overall.
