MSU men finish 12th at spring-opening tournament

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Playing as an individual, Minot State University (MSU) senior Max Karnik made a strong second-day charge with an even-par round, climbing into the Top 20 to finish tied for 16th at the Maverick Desert Classic.
Karnik finished at 2-over 146 (74-72), leading the scores for the Beavers, though his total didn’t factor in MSU’s team score.
The MSU men’s golf team finished 12th as the Beavers shot a team total of 31-over 607 (293-314).
While Karnik had the top finish for the MSU men, Chase Gedak led the way in the Beavers’ team-counting scores as he tied for 24th at 4-over 148 (71-77), and Jace Carlisle was next, tying for 37th at 7-over 151 (72-79).
Zach Hendrickson and Darien Herlick were next for the Beavers as they tied for 52nd with matching 36-hole scores of 10-over 154, and Winston Grayson rounded out the team scores as he finished 78th at 25-over 169 (81-88). Hendrickson shot back-to-back rounds of 77 while Herlick carded a 73 and an 81.
Also in the field and playing as individuals for MSU were Gage Olson and Cameron Schwab who finished 79th and 80th, respectively. Olson shot 27-over 171 (88-83) and Schwab shot 30-over 174 (84-90).
The Concordia, St. Paul men claimed the team title with a one-shot victory over Rockhurst as the Golden Bears finished at 7-over 583 (292-291) as a team.
Bemidji State’s Brogan Paschal was the individual tournament champion, claiming medalist honors by four shots with a two-day total of 6-under 138 (71-67).
The first event of the spring season for the Beavers, the MSU men return to action in two weeks as they play at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Conference Preview on March 24-25 at the Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri, site of next month’s NSIC Championships.
