Majettes avenge previous loss to Braves with road win

MANDAN – The first time Mandan played Minot High, it was January 21, at Minot High and the visitors took the 53-51 win that was the only loss for the Majettes this season.

Minot High returned the favor with the road win in the makeup game on Saturday, February 22, at Mandan with the 71-68 final score after overtime.

The Majettes led 39-29 at the half and despite being outscored 33-23 in the second half, posted a 9-6 edge in the overtime period for the win. Rebounding, 100% free throw shooting and the slight edge in 3-point accuracy was the difference in the end for the Majettes.

Leelee Bell posted 34 points in the game, was 14-for-30 from 2-point range, 5-for-6 from the charity stripe and tallied 13 rebounds in the win. Eve Knutson added ten points while Sydney Aberle hit for eight and both Ariana Rood and Everette Deschamp added seven points in the effort.

The Majettes were fresh off the 68-60 win over Bismarck Century on Friday, February 21, road win prior to the Mandan match. Minot High led 29-24 at the half and outscored the Lady Patriots 39-36 in the second half for the road victory.

Bell had 35 in the Century game with seven rebounds. Kinley Bartsch hit for nine points while Camdyn Varty added eight in the win.

Minot High sits alone atop the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings at 16-1 and will host Bismarck Legacy in their final regular season contest on Tuesday, February 25, at Minot High.

Minot High boys split road games over weekend

The Magicians took the 76-67 road win in a makeup game at Mandan. Minot High led 42-39 at the half and outscored the Braves 34-28 in the second half on the way to the win.

Payton Schell had 23 points in the win while Aric Winczewski added 14 and Grayson Schaeffer posted ten points. Landon Bedell had 19 rebounds in the game for Minot High.

The night before, February 21, at Bismarck Century – the Magicians lost a hard fought battle to the Patriots 103-96 in a double overtime matchup between Minot High at third in the WDA standings and Century at the top of the standings.

The hosts led 39-35 after the first half while Minot High outscored Century 40-36 in the second half. Both teams posted 12 points in the initial overtime while the hosts edged the Magicians 16-9 down the stretch in the second overtime.

Schell posted a team high 33 points in the effort while Winczewski added 26, Fisher Johnson 14 and Landon Bedell posted ten points in the effort.

The Magicians will host Bismarck Legacy on Tuesday, February 25, in the final match of the regular season.
