Lady Lions come from behind to take win over Lady Hornets

The Harvey-Wells County girls basketball team made the trip to Minot for a District 6 challenge with the Bishop Ryan team just ahead of the Lady Hornets in the district standings. Despite leading by nine at the half, the Hornets lost to the Lions 45-39 in the heated battle.
The Hornets jumped out to an 8-4 lead halfway into the first quarter of play. The Lions regrouped and took the 9-8 lead with the momentum shift. Less than a minute later and the game was tied 11-11 and Harvey-Wells County took the 20-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was all about rebounding and the inside game by the Lady Hornets. The lead with 4:29 to go in the second was 25-17 for Harvey-Wells County. The inside game against the three point shooting by the Lions played out to a 31-22 score at the half.
The Lady Lions made the adjustments at the half and out scored the Hornets 23-8 in the second half to take the win.
The win put the Lions at 2-2 in district play and 3-7 overall. With the loss, Harvey-Wells County dropped to 1-4 in district play and 3-8 overall.
Bishop Ryan will battle at Drake-Anamoose next while Harvey-Wells County travels to Our Redeemer’s on Monday, January 13, for another district matchup.
South Prairie-Max 66, Nedrose 27
In a Division A, Region 3 contest, the Lady Royals traveled to play the Lady Cardinals in Nedrose on Thursday, January 9, action. The top ranked team in Division A worked the hardwood enroute to the win.
South Prairie-Max moved to 7-0 with the win and will travel to Glenburn today and host Stanley on Monday, January 13.
With the home loss, Nedrose drops to 3-7 with a home game against Hazen on Monday as well.
Berthold 63, Surrey 48
The fifth ranked team in Division B traveled to play the Surrey girls basketball team. The Lady Mustangs have received votes in the Division B rankings as well, but were unable to defend their home hardwood as the Lady Bombers took the battle for the District 6 top spot.
Surrey was second in district standings at 3-0 with a 7-2 overall mark going into the contest. Berthold was 4-0 in district play and 10-0 overall before the game.
The undefeated Bombers will host TGU on Tuesday, January 14, while Surrey will travel to Glenburn on January 17 for their next game.
Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 50, Velva 38
The Lady Mavericks worked their road trip magic in a win over the Lady Aggies in Velva. The win keeps Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood in the top half of the District 6 standings while Velva remains just ahead of Westhope-Newburg at the bottom of the District 6 standings.
The Lady Mavericks move to 6-0 and will take on TGU at home tomorrow, January 11, and Glenburn on Tuesday, January 14, at home as well.
Velva drops to 1-10 with a trip to Westhope-Newburg for their next game on Monday, January 13.
