With day one done, several teams start season at Shootout on the Prairie
The Shootout on the Prairie tipped off at the Minot Auditorium on Friday, and for several teams it was the initial contest of the new season. Stanley, Dickinson Trinity, Hatton-Northwood, Thompson, Kenmare-Bowbells and South Prairie-Max all had wins on the first day of the Shootout.
Velva, Westhope-Newburg, Bishop Ryan, Bottineau, May-Port-CG and Wahpeton will be looking for their first win at the Shootout today.
South Prairie-Max 74, Wahpeton 48
The top ranked Class A Royals tested themselves against the fifth ranked team from Wahpeton and showed that their will over the third ranked Kenmare-Bowbells from Class B was no fluke.
Wahpeton will take on Stanley today while South Prairie-Max will play the third ranked Tommies at the Shootout today.
Hatton-Northwood 57, Bishop Ryan 52
Despite leading 9-0 to start the game and holding a six point lead in the second quarter of play, Bishop Ryan was unable to corral the Hatton-Northwood girls who battled the Lions to the very end for the tournament opening win.
Bishop Ryan will face the Kenmare-Bowbells girls today at the Shootout.
Thompson 60, Bottineau 46
The Tommies are ranked third in Class A going into the season and Bottineau had received votes as well. The two teams battled with Thompson displaying the toughness that earned them the preseason ranking.
The third ranked Tommies will put that win to the test today as they face the top ranked Royals in the fourth game of the day while Bottineau will face Dickinson Trinity.
Dickinson Trinity 57, Westhope-Newburg 34
The Titans handed the Lady Sioux the loss on day one in the second game of the day. Trinity has received preseason votes for the top ten and will put that to the test against Bottineau, who also has received votes.
Kenmare-Bowbells 50, May-Port-CG 38
May-Port-CG had received votes for top ten ranking going into the season and put that to the test against the third ranked Class B team. The Lady Honkers worked to the win and will play Bishop Ryan today at the Shootout.
May-Port-CG will tackle Westhope-Newburg in the final game of the Shootout today.
Stanley 40, Velva 38
The Blue Jays opened the Shootout with a win over the Aggies in the first game of the day at the Minot Auditorium.
Velva will take on Hatton-Northwood in the first game of the day today while Stanley will tackle Wahpeton, who is ranked fifth in preseason polls.
