MSU athletics ranked 13th in NSIC All-Sports standings
As the fall championship season wraps up, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) announced its All-Sports standings through the first third of the academic year and the Minot State University (MSU) athletic department finds itself 13th in the league’s early standings.
MSU earned 26.5 points during the fall sports season – for the fall sports of volleyball, women’s soccer, football, and men’s and women’s cross country.
The MSU men’s sports teams of football and cross country were 12th in the NSIC All-Sports standings with 6 points, and the MSU women’s sports teams of volleyball, soccer, and cross country were 11th with 20.5 points.
The winner of each title in a conference-sponsored championship sport receives points totaling the number of teams in that sport, plus one. The next-place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties in the standings at any level result in the totaling of points and equal distribution.
Augustana leads the All-Sports standings with 64 points as the Vikings won the NSIC football title, and both the men’s and women’s cross-country titles. Augustana also was No. 1 in the men’s standings with 28 points and first in the women’s standings with 36 points.
Women’s soccer regular-season champion Minnesota State, Mankato was No. 2 in the women’s standings with 35.5 points, and volleyball regular-season champion St. Cloud State was third with 34 points, while Sioux Falls was No. 2 in the men’s standings with 20 points.
The standings will be updated following the winter sports season with points awarded for each teams’ finish in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s wrestling, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, and women’s swimming and diving.
The NSIC All-Sports Champions will be crowned after the spring sports season featuring softball, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, and women’s tennis.
