Majettes sweep road games over weekend

The Minot girls basketball teams kicked off their seasons with a road trips to the east to face Eastern Dakota Conference foes in the first games of the 2024-2025 NDHSAA Class AA season.

Minot High 84, West Fargo Sheyenne 41

The Majettes built a 55-21 lead in the first half and outscored the hosts 29-20 in the second half enroute to the second win of their road trip on Saturday, December 7.

“[It was a] great start for us all around,” said head girls coach Jason Schwarz. “Still looking to make some strides on defense and close up some holes. We got everyone involved on offense for the most part. That’s key.”

Minot High shot over 44 percent from the field with 19-34 shooting and 9-29 from the three point arc. The Majettes were also 19-20 from the charity stripe in the game.

The Majettes out rebounded Sheyenne 29-23 on the defensive side and 23 points compared to six on points off turnovers.

Maggie Frick had 31 points for Minot High and was 5-for-7 from three point range. Leelee Bell had 22 points, ten defensive boards and two offensive rebounds as well. Karen Lamouraux hit for 11 points in the win

Minot High will be back in action by hosting West Fargo Horace on Friday, December 14, at Minot High.

In the first game of the new season, the Majettes pushed a 51-27 first half lead to triple digits on the scoreboard by out scoring their hosts 55-25 in the second half of play.

The Majettes were nearly 48 percent shooting from the field going 15-for-41 from three point range.

Minot High out rebounded West Fargo 23 to seven on the offensive boards and 29 to 22 on the defensive rebounds. The Majettes had 29 points in transition with 21 second chance points. Minot High also recorded 14 steals in the game.

The Majettes had six players in double digit scoring. Fricke hit for 23, Bell added 20 while Lamouraux had 14 points. Sydney Aberle and Everette Deschamp each added 14 points while Kinley Bartsch added 13 in the effort.

Bell had 15 rebounds and five assists while Aberle added 11 rebounds and three assists in the win.

Grand Forks Red River 59, Minot North 51

The Sentinels kicked off their first varsity season on the hardcourt with a road trip to Grand Forks to take on Red River on Saturday, December 7, but will have to wait for a future game for the historic first win as a varsity team.

The Sentinels host Turtle Mountain Community High School on Tuesday, December 10, at Minot North High School.
