Girls wrestling takes down Bismarck Century in season opener, 57-18
Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High’s Madisyn Racine makes the move to pin Bismarck Century’s Sydney Huher at the 124-lbs match in the Majettes home opening WDA dual held at Minot North on Friday,
The Minot High girls wrestling team held their first Western Dakota Association (WDA) dual of the season by hosting Bismarck Century. The contest was held at the Minot North gym due to boys basketball at the Minot High facility.
Regardless of location, the Majettes took down the Patriots with a 57-18 win for the home opener.
Jade’ence Fletcher started the contest at 250 with a pin over her opponent and posted six points on the scoreboard for Minot High. Monica Boake did the same at 106 for the Majettes as the score-fest began.
Khylie Schlotz at 112 and Martha Ward at 118 handled their business for Minot High. In one of the faster matches of the evening, Madisyn Racine pinned her foe at 124 to keep the score growing.
Haleigh Carr at 130 kept the wins rolling in for the Majettes. In the 148 match, Claire Fagley worked hard to stay in the win column for the last actual match of the evening, and looked close to the pin at times. She would end up being surprised and lost the match.
There were some contests that garnered points due to lack of grapplers at specific weights. Minot High’s Brooklyn Ost was the winner at the 100-lbs classification due to Century not having a wrestler at the dual. Payton Russell at 136, Riley Hansen at 142 and Maycee Boyce at 155 each had an easy night as well with no opposition.
Century notched wins at the 170 and 190 weights for the same reason- lack of grapplers by Minot High for those classifications.
The Majettes will be at the Turtle Mountain Community High School for their invite today.
