MSU Women go 3-0 at WMCH Showcase
The Minot State University (MSU) women’s hockey team played three games as part of the Women’s Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) Showcase and swept all teams faced.
Two of the teams faced were ranked and the Lady Beavers demonstrated they belong in the top tier of women’s collegiate hockey.

O’FALLON, Ill. – The MSU Beavers women’s hockey team defeated #3 McKendree University 2-1 on Saturday, November 9, to go 3-0 at the WMCH Showcase.
With today’s win, the Beavers improved their record to 10-3-0, while McKendree dropped to 14-3-0 on the season. The Beavers are currently on a 4 game winning streak.
The first period was all MSU as the Beavers scored two goals in the first 20 minutes and held McKendree scoreless. The Beavers first goal was scored on the power play by Mia Mckee at 8:06 into the period to give MSU a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers second goal was scored on the power play by Olivia Opheim at 9:33 into the period to put Minot State on top 2-0. Haylie Biever kept McKendree scoreless in the first period with two saves on two shots on goal.
In the second period, McKendree answered with a goal of their own scored by Aria Groot at 1:41 into the period to make the score 2-1 in favor of MSU. The Beavers were held scoreless in the second period by McKendree’s goaltender, Rachel Staresinic, who tallied three saves on three shots on goal.
The Beavers were able to hold McKendree scoreless in the third period to secure the 2-1 victory for the Beavers. Haylie Biever tallied five saves on five shots on goal in the third period for the Beavers.
Makena Welby, Payton Lang, Paige Kozak, and Abby Tallman were credited with assists in today’s game. Haylie Biever led the way in goal for the Beavers with 15 saves on 15 shots on goal to improve her record to 4-2-0 on the season.
Following today’s 2-1 victory over #3 McKendree, the Beavers will be back in action at home at the Maysa Arena in a two-game series against Adrian College. The first game is Friday, November 15, at 3:45 pm, and the second game is Saturday, November 16, at 3:45 pm.

ST. CHARLES, MO – The MSU Beavers women’s hockey defeated the University of Minnesota 2-0 in game two of the WMCH Showcase on Friday, November 8, in St. Charles, Missouri. The Beavers came into this game following their win against Lindenwood in game one of the WMCH Showcase on Thursday, November 7.
With the against the University of Minnesota, the Beavers improve their record to 9-3-0 on the season, while the University of Minnesota drops to 0-6-0 on the season.
The first period was quiet offensively for both teams as both goalies kept it a 0-0 game through the first 20 minutes. The goalie for the Beavers, Haylie Biever, had 12 saves on 12 shots on goal, and the goalie for the University of Minnesota, Timberlyn Mazeikis, had 14 saves on 14 shots on goal in the first period.
The second period was looking like it would go the same way as the first period before Payton Lang found the back of the net with a goal scored with one second left in the period to put the Beavers ahead 1-0. Haylie Biever would continue to be flawless in goal for the Beavers with 12 saves on 12 shots on goal in the second period.
The Beavers added some insurance late in the third period on a goal scored by Abby Tallman at 14:16 into the period to increase the Beavers lead to 2-0. Haylie Biever completed the shutout for the Beavers with 8 saves on eight shots goal.
Paige Ackerman was credited with two assists in today’s game. Haylie Biever led the way in goal for the Beavers shutting out the University of Minnesota with 32 saves on 32 shots on goal, improving her record to 3-2 on the season.
MSU Women 3, Lindenwood 2 (F/OT)
ST. CHARLES, MO – The MSU Beavers women’s hockey team defeated Lindenwood University by a score of 3-2 in overtime on Thursday, November 7. This win marks the second straight win against Lindenwood in the last three games played for the Beavers. With this win, the #9 Beavers improved their record to 8-3-0, and #13 Lindenwood falls to 6-7-1.
The first period belonged to the Beavers as Lindenwood was held scoreless in the first by Morgan Baker who had 6 saves on 6 shots on goal. Krissy Rink got the Beavers on the board in the first period with a goal scored at 12:29 into the period to make the score 1-0.
As opposed to the first period, the second period was all Lindenwood as the Beavers were held scoreless on 12 shots on goal in the period. Loki Antonio knotted the game up at 1-1 with a goal scored at 3:22 into the period. Ardyn Hawryshko was the next player to get on the board for Lindenwood with a goal scored at 17:17 into the period to put Lindenwood on top 2-1.
MSU and Lindenwood battled it out throughout the third period, but it was MSU who had the big goal in the period. At 17:41 into the period, it was Tori Bear who scored the game tying goal for the Beavers to make the score 2-2 through regulation.
Journey Miller scored the game winning goal for the Beavers at 4:36 into the overtime period to give the Beavers the win by a final score of 3-2.
