Buchholz, Dominguez named MSU Athletes of the Month
Minot State University (MSU) captain Jay Buchholz played like a team leader, scoring at least one point in every game in October for the Beaver men’s hockey team, while senior Paulette Dominguez continued to improve during the month, twice breaking her own school record and earning all-conference honors in cross country.
Each was honored for their effort during the month as Buchholz was named the Male Athlete of the Month for October while Dominguez was named the Female Athlete of the Month for October.
Buchholz led the way for the 3rd-ranked MSU men’s hockey team, which went 4-1-1 in October, as he finished the month with 3 goals and 5 assists, scoring points in all six games. Two of his 3 goals in the month also were game-winning goals, the first in a 4-2 victory over No. 4 Ohio on October 19 and the second in a 4-1 win over No. 18 Mary on October 30.
Buchholz and the MSU men’s hockey team are back in action at home this weekend as the Beavers continue a 6-game homestand hosting Waldorf (Iowa) on Friday, November 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the Maysa Arena, and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 9.
As for Dominguez, she broke her own 6-kilometer NCAA Division II-era school record when she finished 4th at the Marauder Open on October 11 in a time of 21 minutes, 53.9 seconds, then broke that record 2 weeks later as the Beavers hosted the 2024 NSIC Cross Country Championship at Souris Valley Golf Course.
Finishing 15th overall to earn 2nd Team All-NSIC honors, Dominguez clocked a new 6K record time of 21:40 and helped lead Minot State to a 7th-place team finish.
Dominguez and the rest of the Minot State cross-country runners compete this weekend in Joplin, Missouri at the NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday, November 9.
