Sentinels on track, rallied past Majettes in five sets
Minot North’s gym was buzzing with electricity yesterday as Minot High faced the Sentinels for the second time this season. Although the Majettes started on top, Minot North was not ready to give up. The Sentinels won the series 3-2.
The students in the Sentinels student section could have been heard outside after Minot North won the fifth and final set against the Majettes 15-11. Minot High had won the first two sets with two scores of 25-14, regardless of this lead Minot North was not ready to give up yet. The Sentinels found a new drive in the third match winning with a score of 26-24.
With this newfound momentum, Minot North did not stop there. The Sentinels won the fourth set in a breeze with a score of 25-16 putting themselves even with the Majettes on their home court.
Tensions were high between the two sides of the court in the fifth match. Both teams evenly fought with loud and supportive student sections doing battle cheers back and forth across the gym. Minot North ran with their momentum from the last two matches winning the fifth with a score of 15-11.
“We stopped playing volleyball,” said Minot High head coach Jesse Goertzen. “We went away from our style of volleyball and it cost us. [It was] good eye opener for us for sure.”
For the Majettes, junior Mackenzie Dufner led the team with 37 assists. Senior Leah Walter led the team with 13 kills and senior Sydney Aberle followed with nine. Senior Raegan Terrel led the team with 20 digs and senior Mya Bogden led the team with four aces.
Minot High will host Turtle Mountain Community High School on Tuesday, October 22, for their next matchup. Minot North will be at home against Dickinson on Tuesday, October 22.
