Sentinels make statement with solid win over Dickinson

Kari Gibb/MDN Minot North junior Traydon Bachmaier (87) recovers a fumble against Dickinson as the Sentinels host the Midgets on Friday, in Class AA action.

The Midgets put their 1-1 conference record on the line against the Sentinels 1-1 conference record Friday night in Minot and the hosting Minot North team sent a clear message to the rest of the teams in the Class AA bracket- the Sentinels might be in their first year as a varsity squad, but they will play with any team in the conference.

Dickinson began the game on offense and within a couple of plays, the Minot North defense knocked the ball away from a receiver who made a short yardage catch. The Sentinels capitalized by moving the ball less than 40-yards for the rushing touchdown and the 7-0 lead.

On the second Midget offensive series, Dickinson fumbled a quarterback, running back exchange and the Sentinels again recovered the loose ball. Dickinson was able to stop Minot North on downs and the home team led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Within the first four minutes of play in the second quarter, Minot North had posted two more scores compared to Dickinson’s lone touchdown of the game for a 21-7 Sentinels lead at halftime.

Minot North scored within the first couple more touchdowns at the end of the third and within minutes in the fourth quarter for the 34-7 lead that they carried to the end of the game.

Minot North, with the win, moves to 2-1 in conference and in a tie with Jamestown at the same record. Valley City won and moved to 3-0 to maintain the top spot in the standings. Minot North will face Jamestown on the road next week before tackling Valley City in Minot for their last regular season game on Oct. 25, at Sentinels Stadium.

Starting at $2.99/week.
