No. 6 Jamestown beats No. 1 MSU men’s hockey
JAMESTOWN – The host Jamestown Jimmies put together a late rally that spoiled the Beavers’ perfect start to the season.
Three unanswered goals by the sixth-ranked Jimmies led them to a 5-2 win over No. 1-ranked Minot State University (MSU) on Thursday night in Midwest Collegiate Hockey conference action.
The game closed out a four game stretch on the road for the Beavers (3-1-0 overall, 3-1-0 MCH) to start the season. MSU now returns home to host No. 4-ranked Ohio on Friday, October 18, and Saturday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. each night at the Maysa Arena.
The Beavers traded goals with the host Jimmies (7-0-0, 7-0-0) for the first 45 minutes of the night as Colby Joseph scored early in the second stanza, tying it 1-1, and Logan Rands netted an equalizer 4 minutes, 55 seconds into the third, tying the score 2-2.
Just 26 seconds later, Jacob Thomas broke the tie and scored what proved to be the game-winner for the host Jimmies, who then tacked on two more insurance goals as they skated away with the victory.
Jake Anthony finished with 29 saves on the night for MSU, which outshot Jamestown 42-33 but could only get two pucks past Jimmies goalie, Brandon Weare.
Reece Henry, Christian Kadolph, and Jay Buchholz each had an assist on the night for Minot State.
