LARIMORE – Eight teams made the trip to the Larimore Golf Course to compete in the Thunder Invitational hosted by Hatton/Northwood/Larimore high school. The cross country invitational showcased several teams and individuals in both the girls and boys 5000-meter course.

The host team was joined by Rugby, Bottineau, Thompson, Pembina County North, Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich, Maple River, Dakota Prairie and Four Winds/Minnewaukan for the invitational. Each school had boys and girls in both the varsity and JV sections of the race.

For the boys, the Rugby varsity claimed top spot with a team score of 27 while the hosts finished at second with 93 points. Bottineau took third place with a team total of 101 while Pembina County North was right behind them at 102 for fourth place.

Brayden Green from Rugby was the top boy with a time of 17:44 for the event. Teammate Holdyn Jacobson was second at 18:17 while Bottineau’s Niklas Halvorson was third at 19:11 on the course. Nass Fitzsimmons was fourth representing Pembina County North at 19:12 and Rugby’s Jenner Johnson was fifth at 19:30 for the top five finishers.

The Rugby girls won top honors as well with a team score of 31 for the event. Bottineau was second with a 34 team score while Thompson was third at 85 points. Pembina County North was fourth with 97 while Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich took fifth with a 155 team score.

Hannah Senechall was first with a 21:02 while teammate Keyara Lundstrom was second at 21:40 for the Panthers. Bottineau’s Tessa Guariglia was third at 21:41 just behind Lundstrom. Sylvia Grenier was seven seconds behind her Bottineau teammate for fourth place at 21:48 and Rugby’s Kathryn Kuntz took fifth with a time of 22:40 for the event.

The Rugby boys had five of the top ten boys while the Rugby and Bottineau girls had seven of the top ten racers.
