MSU’s Cordeiro National Defensive Player of the Week
A record-setting performance by Minot State University’s (MSU) freshman defensive back Nalu Cordeiro earned him honors from the NSIC and garnered notice nationally, as well.
Named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Cordeiro was named D2 Football’s National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after his performance in the Beavers’ 42-9 road win on Saturday to open league play.
Cordeiro set an all-time school record returning two interceptions for touchdowns in MSU’s win at Southwest Minnesota State, and he now leads the nation with three interceptions this season.
His two touchdown returns also helped the Beavers tie an NCAA single-game team record for defensive touchdowns as Minot State had four defensive touchdowns in the victory.
Cordeiro returned his first interception 92 yards, a Minot State all-time record interception return, as well.
Cordeiro and the Beavers now get ready to host Northern State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium for homecoming.
