MSU DB named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week

A record-setting performance for Minot State University freshman defensive back Nalu Cordeiro earned him his first accolade of the season as he was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The true freshman from Honolulu, Hawaii set two school records in Minot State’s 42-9 road win at Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, returning two interceptions for touchdowns in the win, including a 92-yard return for a score, both of which were all-time school records.

Cordeiro, who now has three interceptions on the season which leads the nation, scored his first collegiate touchdown with his 92-yard touchdown return early in the second quarter that put Minot State (2-0 overall, 1-0 NSIC) on top 21-3 at the time.

Cordeiro added a 29-yard return for touchdown later in the game for the Beavers who scored four defensive touchdowns in the win which tied an NCAA single-game, team record, as well.

Cordeiro added six solo tackles in the win for the Beavers who are back in action this weekend at home hosting Northern State on Saturday, September 14, at 2 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium for homecoming.
