Minot North swept by Legacy, Minot High sweeps Williston

The Minot North Sentinels boys tennis hosted Western Dakota Association foes Bismarck Legacy at Hammond Park on Tuesday, September 10, and took a loss in the process as the Sabers swept the home team 9-0 before heading home.

At the number one singles, Sentinels Parker Vigested faced Caleb Johnson from Legacy. The visitor won 6-3, 6-3 in action that was closer than the score indicated. Rylan Thompson represented Minot North at number two singles and pushed Connor Swihovec to three frames where the Saber won 2-6, 6-0 and 6-4 in the end.

At number three singles, Colton Griffith took on Cooper Miller. Legacy won 6-0, 6-4 to give the visitors a 3-0 edge. At number four singles, Minot North’s Brayden Callahan played Declan Hosak who beat Callahan 6-1, 6-4 to give Legacy the 4-0 lead.

At number five singles, Peyton Opp came out strong against Carter Madison from Legacy. The Saber was able to ride out the first frame energy and won 7-5, 6-1 while Minot North’s Reece Blkre faced Braxton Spooner at the number six singles where Spooner won 6-2, 6-1 for Legacy in the 6-0 sweep at singles play.

In the doubles, Vigested and Griffith faced C. Johnson and Miller at number one doubles and Legacy won 6-1, 6-1 to start off. At number two doubles, Sentinels Thompson and Opp faced Svihovec and the Sabers won 6-4, 6-4 for the 2-0 lead. Callahan and Blikre represented Minot North at number three doubles. The Sabers pair Hosek and Johnson won 6=0, 6-0 to complete the sweep at doubles and gave the visitors the 9-0 win.

Next for Minot North is a trip to Bismarck Century on Thursday, September 12, to close out the week.

Minot High 7, Williston 0

In non-WDA action, Minot High made the trip west to Williston to take on the Coyotes. The Magicians won all matches in straight sets to improve to 3-0, 10-1 while Williston dropped to 0-2, 1-5 on the season.

Nolan Callahan represented Minot High at number one singles and defeated Kane Shannon 6-2, 6-0 to open the lead. Thomas Griffith beat Gavin Douglas 6-1, 6-1 at the number two singles for the Magicians to take a 2-0 team lead. Oliver Thompson faced TJ Nehring at the number three singles and did not surrender a point with the 6-0, 6-0 win. Conor Ohahlen played at the number four singles for Minot High and beat Rhett Carnes 6-1, 6-1 to sweep the singles bracket.

Grayson Schaeffer and Nolan Moore played at the number one doubles and beat Kallon DeLorme and Evan Fisher 6-2, 6-0 for the first win in the doubles bracket. Aidan Diehl and Conner Ressler represented the Magicians at the number two doubles and beat Hudson Kjelsus and Carter Anfinson 6-1, 6-2 to give Minot High the 2-0 lead.

Henrik Evanoff and Aiden Bye faced Brennan DeLorme and Isaac Tesoro at the number three doubles and the Magicians won 6-1, 6-3 for the sweep at doubles as well as the 7-0 team win.

Minot High will travel to Bismarck High to face the Demons on Thursday, September 12.
