Majettes swim and dive team off to great start

The Minot High girls swim and dive team have started their season but not under the radar. The first meet for the team was the Capital City Invite at the BSC Aquatic Center in Bismarck on Saturday, September 7, followed up by a dual meet with Williston on Thursday, September 12, where the Majettes won both events.

As a team, Minot High scored 560.5 points at the Capital City Invited for first place. The closest team was Bismarck Century in second place with 410 points and Bismarck Legacy at third with 370 points as a team.

In several categories, the Majettes showcased top times. Senior Ava Williamson posted a 2:09.28 in the 200 Freestyle for first place and added the top finish in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:04.45 as well.

Junior Sam VonBokern won first place in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.48 for Minot High. She was also first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 59.59 at the meet.

Senior Haili Metzger won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.90 while senior Haley Conklin was first in the 1M Diving with a score of 445.30 for the day. The team also took first place in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a team score of 3:49.44 where Sam was joined by sophomore Emily Dunstan, ninth grader Kirby Quam and junior Sophia VanBokern.

At the Williston Duals, the Majettes scored 127 points compared to the 59 by the Coyotes.

Some of the standout performances were by the same girls.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Dunstan would take first place with a time of 2:03.58 at the duals. Conklin repeated as winner in the 1M Diving with a 302.25 score. Sam BanBokern won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.84 and the 500 Freestyle in 5:26.93 for the Majettes.

In the 100 Freestyle, senior Bostyn Edwards finished first at 58.94 while junior Haliee Valdez was second at 1:00.35 in the race. In the 100 Breaststroke, Wiliamson won with a 1:13.86 while eighth grader Madisyn Racine was second with a 1:19.29 time.

The team continues to prepare for their next event, which will be the home event on Saturday, September 21, as the Majettes play host with the Minot Invite at Minot High School.
