Local teams continue opening week of volleyball

Local Class A and Class B girls volleyball teams continued the start of the season this week with games on Thursday, September 5, both at home and on the road.

South Prairie-Max 3, Nedrose 1

The Royals faced the Cardinals in a match that started one way and ended another. South Prairie-Max took the first frame 25-9 and the second 25-13 before Nedrose jumped back into the action with a 25-23 win in the third. The Royals kept the Cardinals at bay for the 25-17 win in the fourth and deciding frame for the win.

Nedrose senior Lilly Nelson had nine kills, two aces, 20 digs and a block in the effort. South Prairie-Max junior Reagan Trudell had four aces and 28 assists while senior Azjiah Trader recorded 19 kills in the win for the Royals.

Minot High 3, TMCHS 0

The Majettes traveled to face the Braves and won in three straight with scores of 25-10, 25-3 and 25-6 for their second win of the week without giving up a frame. Minot High recorded 28 kills on 47 attacks as a team. Sydney Aberle and Kynsli Gillmore each had eight kills and 12 attacks at the net for the Majettes.

Des Lacs-Burlington 3, Beulah 0

The Lakers had one frame that was tight in their sweep of the Miners from Beulah. The first frame was 25-10 while the second was 25-22 in the heated exchange. The third was a 25-16 win for DLB.

Beulah senior Hannah McGraw posted eight kills while fellow senior Laisha Martens and freshman Clara Hager each added six in the effort.

DLB junior Mycah Faken had 12 kills for the Lakers while senior Ava Brown added ten in the win.

Bishop Ryan 3, TGU 2

In a competitive matchup that went back and forth, the Lions rallied to a win with the final frame score of 15-3 over the Titans.

The Lions won the first frame 25-23 and the third frame 25-22 while the Titans won the second frame 25-20 and the fourth frame by the same score in a tightly contested game.

Newburg-Westhope 3, Surrey 2

Surrey took the first frame 25-20 then lost two in a row to Newburg-Westhope 25-20 and 25-13 before the Mustangs tied the contest with a 25-16 win in the fourth frame. The Sioux held on for a 15-12 victory in the fifth and deciding frame.

Bottineau 3, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 0

The Braves swept the Mavericks 25-18, 25-11 and 25-18 in northern competition on Thursday evening.
