After what seemed like a very, very long break in Western Dakota Association (WDA) play, the girls golf teams got back underway with the Minot Invite at the Vardon Golf Club on Friday, and the local links were taken to heart for Minot North junior Emersyn Kopp as whe beat senior Abigail Schneider by one stroke for the medalist spot with a 76 for the round.

Isabella Hale, the freshman from Mandan rounded out the top three individuals with a 79 and the same three schools finished in the top three for the event as well. Bismarck St. Mayr’s came in at 328 as a team for first place, Mandan at 337 for second place and Minot North at 341 for third place on the local links.

After Kopp in first place for the day, fellow junior Kinzy Welstad nabbed sixth place with an 83 for the day. Senior Carlie Brown shot 90 for 16th place, freshman Katelyn Bast was directly behind her with a 92 for 23rd place. Junior Ally Larson hit the same 92 in the group tied at 23rd while fellow junior Abigail Speer carded 110 and was in at 56th for the event.

Minot High shot a team score of 371 for seventh place on their home turf. Freshman Kenadee Burud led the charge for the Majettes with a 91 for 19th place at home. Junior Maura Alexander recorded the same 91 to be tied at 19th with her teammate.

Junior Katie Thomas was in at 92 as part of the group at 23rd for the day. Senior Samantha Lentz carded a 97 for 35th place. Sophomore Taylor Deslauriiers hit for 103 to round out the team score with her 47th place finish.

Both teams will enjoy a good night’s sleep in their own beds and be up and ready to play in the Minot North Invite today, September 14, at the Souris Valley Golf Club for the next WDA event.
