Football teams across the area worked for wins on Friday night

Kari Gibb/MDN Stanley senior Drake Schlosser (1) looks for space to maneuver against the swarm of Surrey defenders in action Friday evening as the Mustangs hosted the Blue Jays.
Friday night pitted many teams looking to separate from the pack, many working on continuing unbeaten streaks and some looking for the first win of the season. The pleasant fall air was full of the sound that comes from pad on pad contact as high school fields echoed in the efforts of home and visiting teams sorting things out.
Minot High 30,
West Fargo 6
Minot High’s Griffen Broderick had two scores in the big win and Kellan Burke scored one touchdown rushing and one passing as well. On defense, Burke also scored two points with a safety against West Fargo.
The Magicians defense did their share of the heavy lifting as Anthony Alecander and Kaden Henderson each recorded interceptions in the road win.

The home team scored twice in the second quarter for the teams to take a 14-14 score into halftime. Each team scored one touchdown in the third quarter, with the visiting Jaguars holding the 22-20 lead due to a successful two point conversion.

Matthew Hoppe had two rushing scores for the visitors while Julian Leichtenberg hauled in a 63-yard pass from Hudson Rietschel for the visitors.
Stanley 41, Surrey 0
The two teams had one win between them to start the game. Something would have to give as the Blue Jays traveled to face the Mustangs in Surrey on Friday evening. With three minutes to play in the first quarter, Stanley had built a 15-0 lead on a solid running attack that moved the chains enroute to the win.
The visitors repeated a theme amongst the opponents the Mustangs have faced this season. Surrey has yet to play a team with equal numbers of players on the sidelines thus far in the year.
Minot North 20,
GF Central 6
The first year varsity program from Minot North made the trip east to face Grand Forks Central. The Knights had yet to post a win this season and the tough visiting Sentinels proved not to be the first “w” in the win column for the hosting team.
Velva/Garrison/Drake-Anamoose 54, Ray/Powers Lake 0
In a contest of 2-0 teams in conference, the Aggies flexed their might against the visiting Jays enroute to the win.
Velva/Garrison/Drake-Anamoose went into the matchup ranked third in Class A while top ranked Kindred faced second ranked Central Cass in the two unbeaten teams at 4-0 overall. Kindred would win that clash 41-7
With the dominant win by Kindred, as well as the win by the Aggies may mean some adjustments in the polls next week.
Beulah 20,
Southern McLean 12
Beulah built a case for driving towards the playoffs as the fall season moves on as the one win team traveled to South McLean and their 2-0 conference, 3-1 overall record and made a statement with the win.
Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn 68, Alexander 0
The Sioux hosted Alexander Friday night. The Comets brought with them a 3-1 record to test the abilities of Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn and the Sioux continued to exhibit the offensive and defensive firepower shown in games this season.
The third ranked Sioux were not the only ranked team to win. Top ranked LaMoure-LM continued unbeaten with the 56-13 win over Tri-State while second ranked New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock remained unbeaten with the 68-0 win over Four Winds as well.
Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central 50, TGU 16
The Honkers had little issue with the travel to pick up a win over the hosting Titans in Class 9-man action Friday night. The win keeps Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central in striking position come playoff time.
Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 54, Tioga 12
In a clash of 2-2 records, the Mavericks made the trip to face the Pirates and kept from walking the plank with the win. Both teams needed the win to keep the seeding in their favor as the season started the downhill stretch.
South Prairie-Max 48, Dunseith 12
The 3-1 Royals hosted the win-less Dragons and performed as expected enroute to keeping pace within conference for potential seeding.
Harvey-Wells County 35, Bottineau 14
In a surprising game, the Braves with a 2-0 conference, 3-1 overall record traveled to face the 1-1, 1-3 Hornets and the home team stiffened for the win. While Bottineau is still in solid shape for seeding with the last half of the season ahead, the win gives Harvey-Wells County the opportunity to work their way back into playoff contention.
