EDC schools, WDA schools battle at volleyball jamboree
BISMARCK – Teams from the Western Dakota Association (WDA) and the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) started the 2024 volleyball season together in a two day jamboree of non-conference play in Bismarck Friday, August 30, and Saturday, August 31, with each team playing six or seven games over the two days.
At the two day meet, the EDC teams compiled a 40-21 record while teams from the WDA posted a 22-38 overall record.
Minot High played three games on Friday and three games on Saturday at the Jamboree. West Fargo took game one on Friday 3-0 while Shanley won game two 3-0 over the Majettes. Grand Forks Red River beat Minot High 2-1 in game three on Friday.
On Saturday, Minot High beat Bismarck St. Mary’s 2-1 to start the day. Fargo South took the 2-1 win over the Majettes in game two while WF Sheyenne did the same 2-1 in game three. Minot High closed out the start of the season with a 1-5 record on the road with the non-conference contests.
Minot North faced three teams on Friday and three on Saturday as well. WF Horace won game one 3-0 over Minot North. Fargo North and Fargo South each won 2-1 for games two and three on day one of the tournament for the Sentinels.
West Fargo beat Minot North 3-0 in game one on day two. Grand Forks Red River took game two 2-1 while the Sentinels beat Grand Forks Central 2-1 in the final game of the tournament. Minot North had the same 1-5 record that Minot High did.
Jamestown was the top team from the WDA side of the bracket. The Blue Jays beat Grand Forks Central 3-0, Fardo Davies 2-1 and lost to West Fargo 0-3 on day one. On day two, Jamestown beat Watford CIty 3-0, Fargo North 3-0 and WF Horace 2-1 for a 5-1 overall record at the jamboree.
Representing the EDC, Fargo South, Shanley and WF Sheyenne were all undefeated at the Jamboree.
Next up for the Sentinels is a cross town match when they face the Majettes in opening WDA play for both teams. The match will be Tuesday, September 3, at 7 p.m.
In Class B action, New Town beat White Shield on Friday 3-0 to start the season early.
