MSU women’s golf picked 8th in NSIC, Cormier one to watch this year
The final preseason fall sports poll came out Friday and the Minot State University women’s golf team finds itself picked in the middle of the pack by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference coaches.
The Beavers were selected to finish eighth in next spring’s NSIC Championship as the league announced its 2024-25 NSIC Women’s Golf Preseason Coaches’ Poll and Preseason Women’s Golfer of the Year. The Beavers earned 45 points in the coaches voting.
The MSU’s women’s and men’s golf teams open the 2024-25 season in three weeks, playing at the Tracy Lane Memorial hosted by Bemidji State for the women and the Bemidji State Invitational for the men, Sept. 9-10, at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. The 2024-25 NSIC Championships for golf will be held in April of 2025.
While the Beavers were picked eighth, senior Taylor Cormier was highlighted for the Beavers as an NSIC Women’s Golfer to Watch this season. Cormier is a senior from Corner Brook, Newfoundland who is in her fifth season with the Beavers and finished tied for 30th this past spring at the 2023-24 NSIC Championship shooting a 37-over 253 (85-84-84).
Augustana, the reigning NSIC Champions who have won 13 of the last 14 league titles, were picked atop the preseason poll with nine first-place votes and 119 points. Minnesota State, Mankato was the No. 2 pick by coaches with two first-place votes and 108 points.
Winona State was picked to finish third with 91 points, a slim one-point favorite over Sioux Falls in fourth with 90 points, and Wayne State was picked fifth with 81 points.
Sioux Falls graduate student Maggie Veenendall, a three-time All-NSIC First Team selection, was voted the 2024-25 Preseason Women’s Golfer of the Year.
