Both Minots in top twelve at East-West Classic
JAMESTOWN – The Minot High Majettes made a run on day two of the East-West Classic in Jamestown tied for the seventh best round of the day at 363 to move up into a tie with Fargo North for tenth place. Minot North shot a 381 on day two to finish in 12th place at the invite. Minot North sophomore Kinzy Welstad scored 86 on day one, 85 on day two for a 171 total and tied in 17th place.
Grand Forks Red River shot 311 on day one and 310 on day two for a 621 total and first place. Fargo Davies shot the best score on day two at 306 to finish at second with an overall score of 631 at the invite. Mandan, the highest finisher from the Western Dakota Association (WDA) took third with 330 on day one and 317 on day two for a 647 score.
Minot High carded a 384 on day one and a 363 on day two for a 747 total. Seniors Adison Dittus shot 89, 86 for 175 and Morgan Strange carded 95, 88 for 183 and Cali Wilson hit 92, 91 for 183 as well at the event. Sophomore Katie Thomas hit 109, 98 for a 207 total. Freshman Taylor Deslauriers shot 108, 100 for 208 total. Junior Samantha Lentz recorded a 112, 98 for a 210 total.
Minot North hit 370 on day one and 381 on day two for a 751 total for the classic. Welstad was joined by sophomore Emersyn Kopp who recorded an 82, 93 for 175 total. Junior Carlie Brown hit 95, 98 for a 193 for the two days. Eighth grader Katelyn Bast scored 107, 109 for a 216 total. Sophomore Ally Larson turned in a 112, 105 for a 217 total for the event. Sophomore Abigail Speer shot 123, 136 for 259 in the final team score.
Senior Anna Huettl from Mandan shot a 71 on day one and even par 72 on day two for a 143 score- the only player to be subpar for the event. Grand Forks Red River sophomore Ella Speidel was 74, 73 for 147 in a tie second place with Fargo Davies sophomore Rose Solberg with 76, 71 for the same 147 score.
The next event on the calendar for the WDA schools is the Williston Invitational on Friday, August 16 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course.
