Minot drops second game in as many nights to St. Cloud

The Minot Hot Tots (13-27) hosted the St. Cloud Roxs (22-17) on Monday, July 8, as the second half of the Northwood League season got underway and for the second night in a row, the Rox would take a win with the 11-8 win.

St. Cloud chipped in two runs in the top of the first inning. A two-run home run by Ben Higdon, allowed Will Henson to also score on the play. St. Cloud led 2-0 in the middle of the first.

The Hot Tots scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to level the game at 2-2. Jonah Shields scored on Adrian Dominguez ‘putout to put the home team on the board. The second run came by way of Anthony Potestio on a bases-loaded walk that advanced Caid Bergthold to first base. Game tied 2-2 at the end of the first.

The Hot Tots took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Keanu Jacobs-Guishard solo home run to center field.

St.Cloud took the lead again in the top of the third inning. Andrew Savage’s three-run home run put the Rox back on top 5-3. Higdon and Carter Hanson also scored on the play.

In short moments after, Brody Williams hit a three-run home run to extend the Rox lead 8-3,in the third inning. Williams’ launch also allowed Camden Kaufman and Gunnar Hansen to score.

The St. Cloud home run spree carried over to the top of the fourth inning. A Kaufman two-run home run, allowed Andrew Savage to score and brought the Rox to a 10-3 lead.

The Hot Tots scored a fourth run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 10-4 St. Cloud. Affholter scored the Hot Tots run.

Evan Dempsy scored in the bottom of the fifth inning on Affholter single to right field to make it a 10-5 game as Minot cut into the St. Cloud lead.

St.Cloud continued adding on runs in the top of the eighth inning as Higdon scored on a Kaufaman put out for run number 11. The Rox lead 11-5 .

The Hot Tots scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning with Potestio coming across home plate to make it a 11-6 St. Cloud lead. Blake Penso is credited with the RBI. Berghult scored Hot Tots seventh run on a bases loaded walk that advanced Affholter to first base. Penso would also score on a bases loaded walk to bring the score to an 11-8 St. Cloud lead.

The Hot Tots batted 9-for-35 and had one error in the game. Shield batted 1-for-4 and scored a run. Potestio batted 2-for-4 , scored two runs and walked once. Adam Berghult scored a run and walked twice. Dominguez batted 1-for-5 and had a RBI. Bergthold batted 1-for-3, had an RBI and walked twice. Affholter batted 2-for-4, scored a run, had two RBI and walked once. Jacobs-Guishard batted 1-for-4, scored a run, a home-run, had two RBI and walked once. Dempsey batted 1-for-5 and scored a run. Penso scored a run and had a RBI.

Edwing Corrales pitched four innings, allowed ten hits, ten runs and struck out five batters. Hudson Yarbrough pitched four innings, allowed two hits, walked five and struck out two batters. Trae Cassidy pitched one inning, walked one and struck out one batter.

The Rox batted 12-for-39 and had two errors in the game. Henson batted 1-for-6 and scored a run. Higdon batted 3-for-5, scored three runs, a home run and had two RBI. Hanson batted 2-for-4 and scored a run. Savage batted 2-for-3, scored two runs, a home run, had three RBI and walked twice. Kaufman batted 1-for-4, scored two runs, a home run and had two RBI. Hansen scored a run and walked once. Williams batted 2-for-5, scored a run, a home run and had three RBI. Trey King batted 1-for-4 and walked once. Jaylen Ziegler walked twice.

Kristopher Sosnowski pitched three and two-third innings, allowed six hits, four runs, walked two and struck out three batters. Tommy Goss pitched three innings, allowed two hits, one run, walked one and struck out four batters. Brady Joyner pitched one and two-third innings, allowed one hit, two runs, walked four and struck out two batters. Kasey Craford pitched one-third of an inning.
