Minot drops first of four games to La Crosse

Kari Gibb/MDN Tyler Junior College sophomore, Sydney Farmer, was the catcher for the Honeybees as they played game one of four against the La Crosse Steam on Wednesday, July 10, at Corbett Field. Farmer would lead the team in hits in game one.

The Steam made the trip from La Crosse to Minot for a four game stand broken into a pair of doubleheaders with the first two on Wednesday, July 10, at Corbett Field. The Steam used the second and fifth innings to take game one 7-3 over the hosting Honeybees.

Minot jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the bottom of the first inning when Sydney Farmer doubled to right and scored Skyler Dietz with the hit.

La Crosse would add two runs and take the lead at the top of the second inning of play and hold that 2-1 score until the bottom of the fifth inning of play.

With one out, Dietz would hit a solo home run to tie the game up. With two out, Farmer would double to left to get on base. Jackie Albrecht would double to left and score Farmer for the 3-2 lead.

The Steam would answer with four runs at the top of the sixth inning and add one more at the top of the seventh for the win.

Minot was 7-for-29 at the plate and had four errors as a team in the loss. Farmer was 3-for-4 batting with an RBI and scored a run. She has a .389 average at the plate for the season now. Albrecht was 2-for-3 while Kaitlynne Allen and Dietz each had a hit as well.

Kierra Fournier pitched three innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. Jasmine Blizzard pitched four innings and allowed five runs- four earned- and eight hits in relief.

La Crosse was 11-for-32 batting with a pair of errors as a team. Rachel Mori was 3-for-4 at the plate and has a .429 batting average for the season. Valerie Oshoff was 2-for-3 and Ashley Wolfe was 2-for-4 batting. Alexis Watson pitched all seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with two batters walked, four strikeouts and the one home run.

La Crosse and Minot played game two and were still in action at print time. The second pair of doubleheaders will be Thursday, July 11, at Corbett Field.
