Local racers, friends from Canada enjoyed Championship Night

The 2024 race season at the Nodak Speedway started in April, the weekend of the 20th and 11 race events later, Championship Night was held on Sunday, June 30, and many locals enjoyed a great night at the track.

“[I am] super excited to be able to have raced my way to a Championship in Minot,” said Will Scheresky of Max, who won the IMCA Stock Car feature Sunday night. “We’ve been running a backup engine the past six nights [events] and battling some worn out equipment. Finally, these last few nights [we] have got the car dialed in to run as best as it can with the lesser backup engine and have found some speed.”

With the season near the midpoint, elbow grease and a little luck are needed down the stretch.

“[We’re] just hoping to get through the rest of the points nights in Underwood at the McLean County Speedway,” said Wcheresky. “We’re close in a battle for a championship there. Hoping to finish the season strong and go to work in the shop over the winter to upgrade and update everything for next season.”

Local Minot racer, Kyler Satran placed third in the Hobby Stock and has enjoyed a well running car this season.

“The car is running good, we got some dents in the body from the feature [Sunday] that’s all,” said Satran. “Track was fast [Sunday], which didn’t allow for much error without cautions.”

Racers from all over the state of North Dakota were joined by racers from many Canadian locations as well. The results are listed below.

IMCA Hobby Stock

In the 15 laps of the IMCA Hobby Stock race, the ninth place starting slot was occupied by the eventual winner. Brennor Grinnstead from Stanley, North Dakota, in car number 51X made up the nine laps from the start for the win.

Connor Hanson from Torquay Saskatoon, started at the third spot and moved up one place for a second place finish. Local racer, Kyler Satran of Minot, moved up from tenth place to third place in car 22 to round out the top three slots.

Rounding out the top were these racers. Alex Tvedt, Minot, car 103 from sixth to fourth; Tyson Grinnstead, Bismarck, car 82T from fifth to fifth; Diezel Raynard, Lampman Saskatoon, car 96R from eighth to sixth; Jason Ruby, Minot, car 23 from seventh to seventh; Thomas Goldsberry, Minot, car 19T from 11th to eighth; Scott Joern, Minot, car 52 from fourth to ninth and Nate Joern, Minot, car 53 from first to tenth.

IMCA Modified

Within the 25 laps of the IMCA Modified feature, Williston racer Travis Hagen started from the ten spot and finished in first place in the 14T car. Isaiah Geisel from Estevan Saskatoon started in the two spot and finished in second place driving care 21Z while Minot racer Justin Medler dropped from the one spot in car 75M to finish in third place.

Here are the racers from fourth to tenth. Marcus Tomlinson, Turtle Lake, car 5T from fourth to fourth; Drew Christianson, Minot, car 29 from eighth to fifth place; Steven Pfeifer, Bowbells, car 11 from ninth to sixth place; Isaac Sondrol, Turtle Lake, car 12S from 14th to seventh; Chris Tuchscherer, Burlington, car 73T from 17th to eighth place; Jerad Thelen, Minot, car 65 from 12th to ninth and Erik Laudenschlager, Minot, car 49 from fifth to tenth place.

IMCA Northern Sportmod

Bottineau racer Gabriel Deschamp, in car 21, started in the five spot. After 20 laps, he crossed under the checkered flag in first place. Darren Schatz from Williston in car 21D started at the six spot and finished in second place. Christopher Zenz from Max in the 69Z car started at the four spot and finished in third place.

The seven racers that round out the top ten are listed. Robby Rosselli, Minot, car ‘0’ from seventh to fourth; Tim Goodwin, Williston, car 89 from tenth to fifth place; Keenan Glasser, Estevan Saskatoon, car 22 from eighth to sixth place; Ryder Raynard, Estevan Saskatoon, car 18 from 19th to seventh; Dave Rininius, Minot, car 35 from third to ninth and Lance Lochthowe, Minot, car 5 from 22nd to tenth place.

IMCA Sport Compact

Lily Christianson in the 81 car from Minot started in the four spot and used the 12 laps to take first place in the Sport Compact feature. Krys Yost from Belfour went from ninth to second place in car ’00’ and Zach Hughbanks from Minot, in car 27Z maneuvered from seventh to third.

Rounding out the top ten were Kyle Eklund, Sawyer, car 18W from fifth to fourth; Alex Thompson, Bismarck, car 16 from tenth to fifth place; Brooklyn Tomlinson, Turtle Lake, car 17 from the one spot to sixth; Benjamin Burke, Minot, car 47 from eighth to seventh place; Brian Hughbanks, Minot, car ’03’ from third to eighth; Kevin Perdue, Minot, car 92P from 14th to ninth place and Harrison Schwartz, Foxholm, car 83 from 12th to tenth place.

IMCA Stock Car

Car 77, being driven by Will Scheresky of Max, used the 20 laps to climb from the eight spot to first place on race day. Mike Hagen in car 27X, from Williston, started at the four spot to finish in second place. Rounding out the top three, Jason Berg in car 46, from Bismarck, moved from the five spot to third place.

The top ten included Gabriel Deschamp, Bottineau, car 21 from sixth to fourth; Shawn Strand, Mandan, car 99X from tenth to fifth; Kyle Scholpp, Lampman Saskatoon, car 2 from ninth to sixth place; Joren Boyce, Minot, car 67 from second to seventh; Gary Goudy Jr, Stoughton Saskatoon, car 12G from 16th to eighth; Gary Goudy Sr, Stoughton Saskatoon, car 7 from 15th to ninth and Brett Green, Minot, car 25 from 13th to tenth place.
