Hot Tots beat Stingers in game three, drop game four
WILLMAR, Minn. – The Hot Tots had a short turnaround between contests as game two of their doubleheader against the home team Willmar Stingers came a few hours after game one, the 9-8 defeat at the hands of the Stingers. Minot would bounce back with a win in the second game of the doubleheader and third game of the series with the Stingers.

Caid Bergthold continued his terrific day with a solo home run in the top of the second innings to put Minot up 1-0 at the end of the second innings. Nick Alonso scored Minot’s second run in the top of the third inning on a fielder’s choice play that advanced Abe Affholter to first base. Minot led 2-0 in the middle of the third.
The Stingers first run was scored by Hayden Lewis in the bottom of the third inning off Jack Spanier put out. The Hot Tots led 2-1 at the end of the third.
The Hot Tots scored three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Adam Berghult scored on Elias Fiddler put out to make it 3-1 Hot Tots. A Keanu Jacobs-Guishard double to left field allowed Bergthold and Cody Grebeck to score run numbers four and five. The Hot Tots led 5-1 at this point of the contest.
The Stingers pulled out two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Max Buettenback scored on Liam Bushey single to left field. Dariel Osoria scored on a bases-loaded walk that advanced Jack Taxdahl to first base. The Hot Tots led 5-3 at this point.
The Hot Tots extended their lead again in the top of the fifth inning as Affholter scored on Adrian Dominguez single to center field. Dominguez also scored on a Bergthold put out as the Hot Tots led 7-3. The Hot Tots scored run number eight in the top of the sixth inning when Affholter scored an unearned run to make it an 8-3 ball game.
The Hot Tots biggest inning came in the eighth inning where they scored on a bases loaded play where Cody Grebeck was hit by a pitch. Dominguez scored on a bases-loaded walk that advanced Fiddler to first base. Bergthold scored on a bases-loaded walk that advanced Alonso to first base. Grebeck and Fiddler scored on a Potestio single to center field. Alonso scored on Affholter single to left field. The Hot Tots led 15-3 at the end of the eighth inning.
The Hot Tots scored the final run of the game in the top of the ninth inning to make it a 16-3 score .
The Hot Tots batted 16-for-42 and had four errors in the game. Affholter batted 4-for-7, scored two runs and had four RBI . Dominguez batted 1-for-3, scored two runs, had a RBI and walked twice. Berghult batted 1-for-5, scored a run and walked once. Bergthold batted 3-for-5, scored four runs, a home run, had a RBI and walked once. Grebeck batted 1-for-4, scored two runs and had an RBI. Fiddler scored a run, had two RBI and walked three times. Jacobs-Guishard batted 1-for-5,had two RBI and walked once. Alonso batted 3-for-5, scored two runs, had two RBI and walked once.
Evan Depmsey pitched five innings, allowed four hits, three runs, walked two and struck out three batters. Brandon Markarian pitched four innings, allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four batters. Brandon Markarian pitched four innings and allowed no runs, three hits, walked two batters and tallied four strikeouts in relief.
The Stinger batted 7-for-33 and made two errors in the game. Buettenback batted 2-for-5 and scored a run. Osoria batted 1-for-3, scored a run and walked twice. Bushey batted 1-for-3, had a RBI and walked once. Nico Senese batted 1-for-5. Lewis batted 2-for-4 and scored a run. Taxdahl had an RBI and walked once. Sapnier had a RBI.
Avery Liestman pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, seven runs, walked one and struck out three batters. Greysen Strauss pitched two innings, allowed four hits, four runs and walked five. Zach Bates pitched two-third of an inning, allowed two hits, four runs, walked three and struck out two batters. Cameron Jensen pitched one and one-third inning, allowed two hits, one run and walked one.

With a 2-1 lead in the series, The Hot Tots looked to continue on the winning side of things in the final game of their four game series against Willmar Stingers.
Willmar jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Andrew Sojka scored off Liam Bushey single to center field to put the Stingers up 1-0. Dariel Osoria lao scored on Rhett Stokes’ single to center field. Bushey scored the third run on Hayden Lewis’ sacrifice fly. Stokes scored on Jack Sapnier single past third base.
The Hot Tot scored their first run on an Adam Berghult solo home run to left field in the top of the second inning. Willmar led 4-1 at this point.
Willmar scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it a 8-1 ball game. Sojka scored run number five. A two run home run by Liam Bushey, also allowed Osoria to score, extending Willmar lead 7-1. Run number eight was scored by Stokes on a bases loaded walk that advanced Maximus Martin to first base.
The Hot Tots made way for two more runs in the top of the third innings. Blake Penso scored an unearned run, while Xavier Esquer scored an earned run on Adrian Dominguez single to right field. Willmar led 8-3 at this point.
Willmar connected for five more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Osoria scored on Stokes’ single to right field. Casey Murray Jr two run, RBI to center field allowed Bushey and Stokes to score. Willmar 11-3 at this point. Spanier advanced to first base on a fielder’s choice play that allowed Murray Jr to score Willmar 12th run. A Sojka single to right field allowed Spanier to cross home plate for run number 13.
Willmar added their 14th run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Martin scored on a Bushey single to right field.
Willmar punched in three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, extending their lead 17-3. Spanier scored on Martin’s double to left field. A Sojka home run allowed, also allowed Martin to score.
The Hot Tots scored their fourth run in the top of the eighth inning when Berghult scored on Matousek put out.
Willmar responded with eight runs of their own in the bottom of the eight innings. Bushey scored on Lewis’ double to right field. Lewis and Derek Lopez scored on Taxdahl single to right field. Murray Jr scored on Spanier single to center field. Taxdahl scored on Martin single to left field. A three-run home run by Sojka also allowed Spanier and Martin to score.
The Hot Tots abetted 9-for-34 and had four errors in the game. Esquire batted 1-for-3, scored a run and walked once. Dominguez batted 1-for-4 and had two RBI. Berghult batted 2-for-4, scored two runs, a home run and had a RBI. Caid Bergthold was 1-for-4. Penso scored a run. Evan Dempsey batted 1-for-3. Brant Baughcum batted 1-for-3. Matousek batted 1-for-3 and had a RBI.
Griffin Shearon pitched one inning, allowed eight hits, seven runs and walked two. Lucas Aguire pitched one and one-third inning, allowed five hits, five runs, walked two and struck out two batters.
