Honeybees crank up heat, bounce back in game three

The Minot Honeybees dropped the second game of their doubleheader on Wednesday, July 10, at Corbett Field. The team bounced back and played an outstanding defensive game to limit hits and scores for the win in game three, the first of the doubleheader on Thursday, July 11, with game four starting later at 8:35 p.m. at Corbett Field on Taylor Swift night.
Honeybees 7, La Crosse Steam 3
The Minot Honeybees scored four runs at the bottom of the sixth to open up a 3-3 tie with the La Crosse Steam in game three, the first of the doubleheader on Thursday, July 11, at Corbett Field.
After the Steam posted one run at the top of the first inning of play, Minot evened the game in the bottom of the same inning when Kaitlynne Allen scored when Abbie Stigler singled. The teams remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the third inning of play. Skyler Dietz doubled to start the inning and Stingler again singled to score Dietz for the 2-1 lead.
La Crosse would post one run at the top of the fourth inning of play for the 2-2 tie. At the bottom of the fifth, Sydney Farmer singled to left to start the inning. One out later, Josie Buhr singled to score Farmer for the 3-2 lead.
La Cross repeated the effort at the top of the sixth with a run to tie the game at 3-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning of play.
Dominique Baker singled to right to start the offense for Minot. Allen joined her with another single. With one out, Stigler singled to right field to score Baker. Farmer then singled to left field to score Allen. Shayna Myshrall was then hit by a pitch and Victoria Flores swapped with her as a pinch runner.
Buhr singled to left field and scored Stigler and kept the bases loaded. Trinity Gregg went to work at the plate as the designated hitter and was walked, leading to Farmer scoring as the runners advanced for the 7-3 lead after the four run inning was over.
The Honeybees were 13-for-33 batting with one error as a team in the win. Allen and Baker were each 3-for-4 at the plate while Stigler and Farmer were both 2-for-4 batting. Stigler had three RBIs in the game and Buhr added two RBIs. Dietz was 2-for-3 at the plate as five batters had multiple hits in the game.
Jasmine Blizzard pitched five and two-third innings and allowed three runs on six hits, walked three batters and recorded two strikeouts. She also had five total catches, two putouts with one double when she caught a Steam runner off first base after catching her second comeback hit while on the mound. Jackie Albrecht pitched one and one-third innings and allowed no runs and one hit in relief.
The Steam were 7-for-26 at the plate with two errors as a team in the game. Sydney Schott pitched five and one-third innings and allowed three runs on six hits. Alexis Watson pitched two-thirds innings in relief.
La Crosse 3, Honeybees 1
La Crosse scored one run at the top of the third, fifth and sixth innings while Minot scored one run at the bottom of the seventh enroute to the loss.
Caitlyn Dannenfelzer hit a double to left and Dominique Baker singled to center to score Dannenfelzer for the lone Minot run.
Minot was 7-for-27 at the plate with one error as a team. Baker was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game with one RBI. Josie Buhr and Dannenfelzer were each 1-for-3 batting while Skyler Dietz and Abbie Stigler were each 1-for-4 at the plate as well.
Peyton Whitehead pitched three and two-third innings and allowed one run and three hits, walked four batters and had three strikeouts. Jackie Albrecht pitched three and one-third innings and allowed two runs and two hits. She walked nine batters and recorded six strikeouts in relief.
La Crosse was 5-for-25 batting with no errors. Teagan Graul was 2-for-3 at the plate. Mackenzie Willis pitched seven innings and allowed one run on seven hits, walked three batters and recorded seven strikeouts.
