‘Bees drop game one, weather delays second game
The Honeybees began a road trip week with a doubleheader in Madison on Sunday, July 14, and will continue to Mankato to face the Habaneros today, July 15, before heading back to Minot.
Minot lost a very close game in the initial contest of the doubleheader. The Honeybees led the game until late in the matchup.
The second game of the doubleheader in Madison was tied at 1-1 with Josie Buhr posted a run during a SHannon Nelson at bat before weather delayed action due to severe thunderstorms. The game has been rescheduled for July 26th..
Madison Night Mares 3, Honeybees 2
The Honeybees started with a run at the top of the first and another at the top of the third for a 2-0 lead going into the fourth inning of play. The home team Madison Night Mares posted one run at the bottom of the fourth inning and another two runs at the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 3-2 win late in the game. Neither team had any errors in the game.
Minot was 9-for-25 at the plate. Skyler Dietz was a perfect 3-for-3 batting while Kaitlynn Allen was 3-for-4 and scored two runs in the game. Josie Buhr, Jackie Albrecht and Trinity Gregg each added hits as well.
Kierra Fournier pitched six innings and allowed three runs on five hits, walked four batters and tallied two strikeouts in the game.
Madison was 5-for-20 batting. Carly Oliver was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Hilary Blomberg and Tia Durst each added a hit in the win. Brooke Steinhorst pitched three innings and allowed two runs on six hits. Holley Lowenberg pitched two innings and allowed two hits. Karlie McKenzie pitched two innings and allowed one hit and recorded three strikeouts in relief.
