WILLMAR, Minn. – The Stingers scored at least one run in each inning of play except the bottom of the second. One in the first, two in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, six in the seventh and one more in the eighth for the 19-2 win over the Hot Tots in their second road game against Willmar on Wednesday, June 26, before heading home to Minot.
The Hot Tots scored their two runs at the top of the eighth inning of play. With one out, Mateo Serna singled to reach base. Two batters and one out later, Xavier Esquer was walked. Elias Fiddler then singled to load the bases. Serna would score on a wild pitch.
Nick Alonso was walked to reload the bases. Cody Grebeck then singled to score Esquer for the second and final run of the game for Minot.
Minot was 5-for-32 batting and tallied five errors as a team. Evan Dempsey, Adam Berghult, Serna, Fiddler and Grebeck each had one hit in the effort. Grebeck also had the only RBI for the Hot Tots in the game.
Jakob Runkel pitched three innings and allowed six runs on nine hits. Archer Stankowski pitched three innings and allowed six runs on five hits while Ray Keane pitched two innings and allowed seven runs – six earned – on seven hits. As a group, Minot had one strikeout and allowed one home run in the game.
Willmar was 21-for-42 at the plate with one error as a team. Every Stinger recorded at least one hit with Max Buettenback going 4-for-4 and Trevor Winterstein going 4-for-5 batting. Andrew Sojka was 3-for-4 batting while Jessada Brown was 2-for-5 with six RBIs in the game.
JD Hennen pitched seven innings and allowed only one hit, walked five batters and recorded seven strikeouts. Aiden Hansen pitched two innings and allowed two runs on four hits. He also walked three batters and had two strikeouts in relief.
The Hot Tots next host the Mankato MoodDogs for two games and the Badlands Big Sticks for two games as well.
