Minot State hosts new track & field coaching candidates

The search for the new head track and field coach at Minot State is heating up as three candidates are set to head to campus for interviews next week.

Minot State’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Intercollegiate Athletics, Kevin Harmon, is pleased to announce that the Beavers have invited James Bowlin, Steven Schultz, and Jordan Aus to interview with student-athletes, athletic staff, and the community next week in the next phase of the search process.

Bowlin, the current head track & field coach at Southwest College in Kansas, will be on campus Tuesday, May 28, and will meet the public at an open forum at 11 a.m. in the Conference Center on the 3rd floor of the Minot State Student Center.

Schultz, the Beavers current head cross-country coach and interim head track and field coach, will interview on Thursday, May 30, and will meet the public at an open forum at 2 p.m. in the Conference Center on the 3rd floor of the Minot State Student Center.

Aus, the current head track and field coach and Economics instructor at Sheyenne High School in Fargo, will be on campus on Friday, May 31, and will meet the public at an open forum at 2 p.m. in the Conference Center on the 3rd floor of the Minot State Student Center.

Jordan Aus

Coach Bowlin is in his first season as the head coach at Southwestern, an NAIA program in Winfield, Kansas. Prior to taking over as the head coach for the Moundbuilders, Bowlin was an assistant for two years at Central Oklahoma, an NCAA Division II program, and spent four seasons as an assistant at NSIC rival Wayne State.

Bowlin earned a degree in Business & Entrepreneurship from Emporia State (Kan.) and received his Masters in Organizational Management: Sports and Recreation from Wayne State.

Schultz is in his second season with the Beavers and first as head coach after spending a season as assistant. He took over the Minot State cross-country program last fall and was named interim head track and field coach of the Beavers in February.

Prior to joining Minot State’s staff, he served as an assistant for four seasons at Mount Marty, an NAIA program in Yankton, South Dakota.

Schultz earned his degree in Exercise Science from Concordia (Neb.) and is finishing his Masters in Sports Management at Minot State.

James Bowlin

Aus is in his 10th year as the head track and field coach at Sheyenne HS in the West Fargo School District and is a two-time North Dakota High School Boys Coach of the Year.

Aus earned his degree in Social Science Education from Valley City State and his Masters in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State Moorhead.
