Minot High girls Tennis win Sheyenne Invite

WEST FARGO – Minot High tennis brought home first place as a team in the East-West Invite held in Fargo on Saturday, May 11, with ten schools in attendance. Dickinson finished second while Mandan finished third.

Majettes freshman Ava Thuner won first place at the No. 4 singles while senior Reese Goodman won top spot at No. 5 singes for Minot High. Senior Adison Dittus won the championship at the No. 6 singles while sophomore Kyllie Fettig finished in second place at No. 2 singles. Majettes senior Sierra Ronning did the same at No. 3 singles enroute to the Majettes taking the trophy.

Minot High’s junior Lila and her sophomore sister Grace Olson teamed up at No. 1 doubles and placed fourth at the invite while sophomore Sophia Bell and junior Marrin Peterson paired at No. 3 doubles for sixth place.

West Fargo Sheyenne’s Sarea Gu won the No. 1 singles title while Dickinson’s Valeria Bradley and Shayna Klitzke won the No. 1 doubles bracket.

The day before the Sheyenne Invite, the Majettes faced Fargo North and Fargo Davies winning both matches.

Minot High 5, Fargo North 0

In the earlier match Minot High won each matchup. Ronning won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. G. Olson won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Thunder won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the sweep.

Senior Sidney Ressler and Fettig won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and the pair of Goodman and L. Olson won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 doubles for Minot High.

Minot High 4, Fargo Davies 1

In the afternoon match, Minot High won two of the three singles and both of the doubles matchups.

Minot High’s Fettig won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. G. Olson wan 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Majettes Ressler lost 6-3, 6-1 to Paige McCormmick at the No. 1 singles for the lone Fargo Davies win.

Minot High pair Ronning and L. Olson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles while Goodman and Thuner won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles for the team.

With the Majettes at number one and the Sabers at number two, the team will be at Bismarck Legacy on Thursday, May 16, between the top two teams in the Western Dakota Association standings.
