Minot North started the game well, holding the visitors to one hit and three outs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the same inning, Aven Kelly was walked with two outs and Shipman doubled to advance Kelly to third base. Tiecyn Hertz doubled to center to score Kelly and Shipman for a 2-0 lead.

The second inning was even as the teams posted two runs apiece. Mya Bagwell singled to start the offense for the Sentinels before Aubree Braaten walked. Eliese McCann reached first base on an error by the pitcher to load the bases. Kinzy Welstad hit a ground ball and was safe at first on an error by the catcher – Bagwell scored.

Despite Coleman’s single, the shortstop was able to throw McCann out at third for the first out. Kelly grounded out to advance Welstad to third and Coleman to second. Then, Shipman singled to score Welstad, and Coleman advanced to third, with the score at the end of two innings, 5-3 for the Sentinels.

The top of the third and fourth innings were painful for Minot North. Legacy scored ten runs in each of the innings to take a 23-5 lead into the fifth inning of play. The Sabers were held scoreless in the top of the fifth and the Sentinels attempted to make up runs.

Shipman singled to start the bottom of the fifth. Hertz hit a sacrifice bunt to move Shipman to second. Mylee Ackerman grounded out but advanced Shipman to third. With two outs, Bagwell walked. Shipman scored on a passed ball, and Braaten singled on a fly ball to advance Bagwell. McCann singled to score Bagwell and sent Braaten to second base with the last player striking out to end the first game.

The Sabers got on the scoreboard in the top of the first, 1-0 and the hosting Sentinels answered with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Welstad opened with a single and Coleman walked. Hertz singled to score Welstad and advance Coleman to second base. Shipman singled to advance Coleman to third and Hertz to second.

Ackerman hit a ground ball and was safe at first on an error, with Coleman and Hertz scoring and Ackerman advancing to second on the same play. Two strikeouts and a line drive to the pitcher ended the inning with Minot North in front 4-1 going into the top of the second inning.

Legacy scored six runs in the top of the second, nine in the top of the third and one run in the fourth inning, two in the sixth and four more at the top of the seventh inning.

Minot North added two in the bottom of the second, three in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the bottom of the sixth to stay in the mix, but the 15 runs scored in the second and third innings by Legacy proved too many for the Sentinels to overtake the visitors.

Minot North will face cross town rival Minot High in a doubleheader today at South Hill Complex with game one at 4:30 p.m.
