Minot High sweep Minot North in doubleheader

The Minot High softball team (11-2, 6,0) made the long trip across town to face the Minot North Sentinels (5-10-1, 4-6) in a doubleheader despite very windy conditions. The matchup between the two Minot teams showcased the seasoned versus the very young and new as the Majettes had their experience on display.

Minot North softball, as a new team to the Western Dakota Association (WDA) varsity table has six freshmen, four sophomores and two juniors. The Majettes by comparison have one sophomore, seven juniors and five seniors on the roster this season. The inaugural season for the Sentinels will give tremendous levels of game time experience going forward.

Minot High 24, Minot North 4

The Majettes started the scoring in the top of the first inning with nine runs on seven hits and added another nine runs at the top of the second inning. As a team, Minot High was 23 of 38 batting and had nine batters walked. Majette senior Taylor Falcon was 4 of 4 from the plate with five RBIs and scored five runs in the game. Senior Jillian Ackerman was 4 of 5 while Ellington Anderson was 3 of 5 batting.

Minot High junior Halle Baker pitched two innings and had no runs with no hits allowed. She walked one batter and struck out one batter. Junior Raegan Terrel pitched four innings in relief and allowed four runs on five hits. She had an earned run stat line of two and did not walk any batters and stuck out three.

Minot North sophomore Kinzy Welstad was 2 of 3 at the plate with fellow sophomoreKate Coleman, junior Cadey Shipman and freshman Eliese McCann each recording a hit in the game. The Sentinels were 5 of 20 batting in the game. Sophomore Tiecyn Hertz pitched the entire game and allowed 24 runs on 23 hits with an earned run stat line of 17 for the game.

Minot High 19, Minot North 6

Both Minot teams opened the second game with a run apiece in the first inning. By the end of the fourth inning, the Majettes led 9-6 in a competitive game. Minot High added two runs in the fifth and eight in the sixth inning to widen the winning score.

Hertz and Shipman were both 2 of 3 from the plate for the Sentinels while freshman Mya Bagwell and Coleman each added a hit in the game. As a team, Minot North was 6 of 24 batting and committed four errors. Welstad pitched all six innings for Minot North and allowed 19 runs on 18 hits with an earned run stat line of 15 for the game.

Journey Larson and junior Gabbi Rohrer were each 3 of 4 at the plate with five RBIs and scored six runs between them for the Majettes. Senior Avery Lunde was also 3 of 4 with two RBIs and scored two runs. Minot High’s E. Anderson was 2 of 2 while Baker and I. Anderson batted 2 of 4 at the plate. Junior Sydnee Bartsch was 2 of 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored as well.

As a team, the Majettes were 18 of 32 batting and had seven batters walked. Bartsch pitched all six innings and allowed six runs on six hits. She walked six batters and struck out seven in the game.

Minot High travels to Dickinson today, April 23, for a doubleheader while Minot North will be at Williston Thursday, April 25, for a doubleheader as well.
