Minot High soccer outlasts Legacy on road

BISMARCK – For the second time this season, the Minot High Majettes (4-0, 5-0) soccer team faced the Bismarck Legacy Sabers (2-3-1, 2-3-1). The first game, on April 9th, was a 5-0 win for Minot High at home. On Saturday, the Majettes picked up the season sweep of the Sabers with a 2-0 win on the road. The win extends Minot High’s unbeaten streak to 56 games.

The game began as a defensive struggle for both teams with no scoring in the first half of play. Minot High lit the scoreboard up at the 57th minute of play when senior Emerson Perrin fed fellow captain Maicee Burke, who scored for the Majettes.

At the 66th minute of play, Perrin was granted a penalty kick that turned into a goal and a 2-0 lead. The final goal was scored by junior Morgan Forthun from an assist by Burke at the 70th minute of play.

Freshman Kinsli Gilmore had six saves while the Majettes had 14 shots on goal in the match. For the year so far, Minot High has scored 36 goals and has not allowed an opponent to score. The current team point leader is Perrin with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.

In Western Dakota Association (WDA) play, Jamestown and Minot High are tied atop the standings as each has a conference record of 4-0 and 12 points. Mandan sits at third at 4-1, despite also having 12 points, with the Braves lone loss at the hands Majettes.

Minot High hosts Jamestown this week on Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. with the winner finding the driver’s seat for the WDA regular season title.
