State Wrestling Update

FARGO – Drew Zwak, Bishop Ryan junior is in the final. He defeated his first three opponents en route to the championship match at 172 pounds on day one of the state tournament. He will face Jace Nitschke, a third seed senior from South Border in the final. Nitschke upset second seed senior Mike Nelson from Lisbon in the semifinals to earn his shot at Zwak.

Junior Shane Nitschke of South Border will face Bishop Ryan sophomore Cade Okeson in the 215 pound final. The second Nitschke to make the finals is the top seed while the second Lion to make the final is the two seed.

Elder brother Okeson – Coy – will face Ben Roundy, a senior from Killdeer in the 285 final. Coy is the top seed while Roundy is the second seed. Both wrestlers made it into the finals with three falls for each. Okeson had less than two minutes of mat time in all three matches with falls at 1:14, 0:14 and 0:36 respectively.

For the girls, Top seed junior Alexis Schnieder from Napoleon-GS had her own hat trick of falls on her way to the final match. She will face third seeded junior, Hallie Nash from Minot High, who also had three falls on her way to the 118 pound final.

Top seed junior Emily Novak of Grand Forks marched into the final with three quick falls, spending just over two minutes on the mat for all three combined. She will face second seed junior Kiera Aguilar of Minot High in the 155 pound final. Aguilar also tallied three falls on her way to the final match with roughly the same amount of time on the mat.

At 170 pounds, Top seed freshman Alexis Storsved of Mandan will face second seed freshman Victoria Pasterz of Des Lacs-Burlington in the final. Maintaining tradition, both athletes made the final with three falls leading up to the match.

Not wanting to be left out, Top seed freshman Cambree Anderson of Bismarck will face second seed sophomore Danijah Moore of Minot High in the 190 pound final. Each of these wrestlers also posted falls on the way to the final match. Anderson had two falls compared to Moore who tallied three.

Action began at 8 a.m. today with weigh-ins and progressed to semifinals today. Many local athletes have spent the day working to secure a shot at the final match for their weight class representing their school. Here are some of the results for Thursday and matchups for today.

Boy’s

Class A

107 pounds

Top seeded Jake Glaser of Dickenson met fifth seed David Llamas of Minot after each won their first two matches. Glaser defeated Llamas 7-0 for a shot at the final while Llamas will continue for a shot at third place.

114 pounds

Eighth grader Korbin Kraft of Minot lost in the first round to Watford City sophomore Corbin Sourenson 5-1. Kraft did win the next two matches enroute to a possible third place match.

Devils Lake sophomore Wesley Fisk is still alive after a first round loss and still has a shot at third place as well.

121 pounds

Minot sophomore Vincent Martinez dropped the first round but stayed alive for a shot at third place and will face Watford City freshman Rowdy Mott in the next match to continue.

127 pounds

Minot junior Ty Burton is still alive for a shot at third despite a loss in round one.

133 pounds

Top seeded junior Koltyn Grebel of Valley City will face second seeded junior Marquis Ritcher from Mandan.

139 pounds

Top seeded junior Brier Arnegard from Watford City will face sixth seeded sophomore Hudson Egeberg from Bismarck in the final.

145 pounds

In a surprise, fourth seeded senior Ethan Dennis from Watford City will face second seeded freshman Landon Zink of Sheyenne in the final.

152 pounds

Fifth seeded junior Kaden Kraft of Minot High lost to top seeded senior Grady Anderson of Jamestown in the quarterfinal round and will compete for third place going forward. Anderson will face senior Sawyer Carr from Sheyenne in the final.

160 pounds

Minot High senior DaJarius Jones won round one but lost in the second round and will compete for a shot at third place going forward. Top seeded Wyatt Kosidowski, a sophomore from Davies will face third seed senior Ethan Miller from Valley City in the final.

172 pounds

Fourth seeded junior Noah Bledsoe of Minot High lost to top seeded senior LJ Araujo in the quarterfinals and is still alive for third place. Araujo, who is undefeated this year, faces second seeded Williston senior Ty Wedrich in the final.

189 pounds

Devils Lake senior Tate Estenson seeded fourth lost to top seeded sophomore William Ward of North Fargo in the quarterfinals and will compete for third. Ward faces second seeded sophomore Hugh Meyer of Dickinson in the final. Minot High junior Mason Eichhorn is still in the running for a shot at third place despite a loss in round one.

215 pounds

First seed Ole Taylor, a junior from Bismarck Century will face second seed senior Connor Manske of Sheyenne in the final. Junior Lincoln Brookes from Minot High is still alive after a round two loss for a shot at third.

285 pounds

Fifth seeded senior, Ethan Halvorson of Dickinson will face second seeded sophomore, Darron Bitz of Bismarck Century in the final.

Class B

107 pounds

Top seeded freshman Bode Henderson from Northern Lights will face second seeded eighth grader Tristian Miller of Williams County in the final.

114 pounds

Top seeded junior Dalton Feist of Napoleon-GS will face second seeded eighth grader Josh Temes of Beulah-Hazen in the final.

121 pounds

Top seeded Kruiser Burns, a junior from Grafton will face second seeded sophomore Cohen Bell of Stanley in the final. Fourth seed sophomore Pitch Hager of Velva is still competing for third place after falling in the quarterfinals to Burns.

127 pounds

Top seed senior Kashden Wadesen of Lisbon will face third seed junior Charlie Irwin of New Salem-Almont in the final.

133 pounds

First seed junior, Alvy Henderson of Northern Lights will face third seed sophomore Sawyer Owens of Hillsboro-Central Valley in the final.

139 pounds

Top seeded junior, William Cook of Kenmare-Bowbells will face second seeded senior Ethan Maier in the final. Third seeded eighth grader, Brextyn Yanish of Velva lost to Maier in the semifinals and is still in the hunt for third place.

145 pounds

After two pins and a 3-0 decision, top seeded junior Carson Heldre of Velva will face second seeded junior Colton Clifton of Carrington in the final.

Top seed Blaze Reinke, a Lisbon senior, will face second seed junior Brody Hoffman in the final.

Top seed Gus Bohmbach, a senior from Killdeer, will face senior second seed Josh Meehi of Oakes in the final.

Top seed eighth grader Keeley Kainoa of Mandan will face Eva Litsey, a seventh grader from South Border and second seed in the final.

112 pounds

Freshman Alicia Kenfack, the top seed from Bismarck Legacy will face Kaydence Golding, a seventh grader from Jamestown and second seed in the final. Minot High sophomore and tenth seed, Khylie Schlotz lost to Kenfack in the first round but is still alive in the hunt for third.

118 pounds

Top seed junior, Alexis Schnieder from Napoleon-GS will face third seeded junior, Hallie Nash from Minot High in the final.

124 pounds

Top seed seventh grader, Amaya Baptiste of Kenmare-Bowbells will face eighth grader Maggie Thiegles, the third seed from Bismarck in the final.

Top seed freshman Julia Araujo of Bismarck will face second seed sophomore Khendra Garcia of Carrington in the final.

Top seed sophomore, Aleiyia Cullinen of Bismarck Legacy will face second seed Elle Roseland of Hettinger/Scranton in the final. Freshman Victoria Llamas of Minot High is still in the hunt for third after a first round loss.

Top seed Aubrie Overson, a junior from Bismarck will face third seed Webeline Nakien, a sophomore from Fargo in the final. Kendal Bice, an eighth grader from Minot High is still in the hunt for third despite a loss in round one. Freshman Maycee Boyce of Minot High is also still competing for third place.

Top seed sophomore Paige Baumgartner of Bismarck will face second seed senior Cadence Cook of Bismarck Century in the final. Fourth seed junior Katelyn Vetter of Minot High lost to Baumgartner in the semifinal and is still competing for third place.
