Magicians seniors close out home careers in style against Williston

The Minot High School Magicians pulled a serious win out of their hats against the Williston Coyotes, recording a 13-2 win that was never close. Minot High notched 38 shots on goal compared to 11 for the visitors from Williston.

The first period began with sophomore Tate Haugenoe taking a pass from fellow sophomore Cole Richardson and scoring at the 7:49 mark of the game. Senior Jersey Abrahamson added his own goal shortly after, at the 11:19 mark, It was the first of four goals, as he closed out his home career with a hat trick plus one

Minot High had eight players score goals with junior Mackley Morelli and sophomore Rylan Roteliuk both hitting the net more than once. Another 15 players added assists in the outpouring of offense. The only Magi members to have a relatively relaxing game were the goalies with shots on goal and goals only showing up in the third period. .

The visiting Coyotes made an effort to keep the puck away from their goal area to start the second period. The uptick in offense raised their shots on goal from 1 to 4 compared to the initial frame.

Both teams spent time in the penalty box with Minot High recording five penalties for 13 minutes compared to seven for Williston’s 17 minutes. The Coyotes won 25 faceoffs compared to the Magi’s 24. The main difference in the game was the shooting by the Minot High players.

At the 5:44 mark of the third period, Williston junior Ethan Cote gathered in a pass combination from Chase Collings and Kane Shannon to get the Coyotes on the board. Shannon then added the second goal for the visitors at the 8:30 mark to close out the Coyotes’ scoring.

The evening marked the end of the home season with the Magi celebrating senior night for both players and cheerleaders.

With the win, Minot High will prepare for the WDA tournament in Bismarck. It begins on Thursday, Feb. 15.
