Majettes cheerleaders sweep competition

Adam Papin/MDN Minot High’s cheerleading team competes in the Cheer/Dance category at Saturday’s 2023 NDCCA Fall State Cheer Competition.

WEST FARGO – Minot High’s cheerleading team had quite the weekend.

Fresh off cheering on the school’s football team during their Dakota Bowl XXXI win on Friday, they won three state titles of their own on Saturday at the 2023.

“Four state championships in 24 hours,” said senior Minot High cheerleader Isabella Roll. “Honestly, I think our perseverance put us in the position to win and keep it going because we had to redo our whole routing and we still came in here and won. Roll Magi.”

Minot High finished first in all three team events in the Class A-Large school division, winning the Timeout, Game Day and Cheer/Dance.

In the Timeout division, Minot High beat out second-place Williston. West Fargo Horace finished third, Minot North was fourth and Bismarck Century rounded out the top five.

Dickinson was runner-up in the Game Day competition while Minot North finished third. West Fargo Sheyenne finished fourth and Williston placed fifth.

West Fargo Sheyenne, who hosted the event, was runner-up in the Cheer/Dance competition, where each team does a two-and-a-half-minute routine to music that combines all the cheer elements into one piece. Minot North finished third. Bismarck Century and Bismarck Legacy rounded out the top five.

Minot High’s Class A stunt group finished second while Minot North’s group finished fifth. Minot High’s Lely Rivera finished second in the individual all-around to state champion Xeia Schneider of Dickinson. Rivera also finished in a tie for second with Minot North’s Vreelyn Nygaard in the Jump Off event. Both girls finished second to Schneider.

It was Minot High’s fourth consecutive and 19th overall state title in Cheer/Dance. Their Timeout title was their tenth overall. The Majettes won the Game Day state title for the fifth consecutive year. It is their sixth title in the discipline overall.

The team was also recognized for its academic excellence, being named an all-scholar team with a team GPA over 3.2.

The competition marked the first time Minot North’s squad competed at the varsity level, and head coach Carly Johnson couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome.

Minot High will travel to the 3rd Annual Best of the Midwest cheerleading competition on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, where they will be defending their title of Grand Champion. The Majettes have been named Grand Champion each year since the event was established in 2022.

The Minot High Cheer Team is coached by Vytalli Klimpell and assisted by Aleena Norris, Maddie Holmes and Shay Green.

Starting at $2.99/week.
