Trio of golfers in mix at Class B state tourney

MAPLETON – A trio of local golfers find themselves in the top ten of the NDHSAA Class B Girls State Golf Championship after Monday’s opening round at Maple River Golf Club in Mapleton.
Des Lacs-Burlington freshman Laila Christianson sits tied for fourth place with Heart River’s Megan Robb and Oak Grove’s Sylvie Brantner. The trio each carded a 7-over 79.
Nedrose’s Meadow Robers sits one shot back at 8-over, while Stanley’s Avery Ellis is tied for tenth place with Oak Grove’s Josie Brantner and Park River’s Nora Wharam with a 12-over 84.
All three are looking up the leaderboard at Kindred’s Avery Bartels who shot a 2-under-par 7- to open up a seven-stroke lead over Hatton-Northwood’s Trista Bilden, who fired a 5-over-par 77.
Bottineau posted the best opening round score of area teams and sit in fourth place overall.
Des Lacs-Burlington and Nedrose are tied for nineth place in the team standings after both squads shot a 391 on the day. Other local teams include Velva (396-12th place), Kenmare (399-13th place) and Stanley (435-14th place).
Oak Grove holds a ten-stroke lead over Kindred, with Heart River eighteen strokes back in third place. Bottineau is fourth after shooting a 371 while Park River is in fifth, having posted a 374.
