Pair of Minot golfers named All-State

Adam Papin/MDN Minot’s Kasen Rostad, shown teeing off earlier this season, was named to the NDHSCA 2023 Class A Boys Golf All-State Team.

Kasen Rostad and Brock Jones led the Minot Magicians all golf season, and both were rewarded by being named to the NDHSCA 2023 Class A Boys Golf All-State Team.

Rostad finished the year with a scoring average of 75, which was the lowest average in the Western Dakota Association. In addition to leading the WDA in scoring, Rostad shot back-to-back 68s to claim medalist honors at both the Dickinson Invite and the Mandan Invite. He finished runner-up at both the Minot Invite and the Williston Invite, to go along with top-10 finishes in each regular season event.

The Magi sophomore just missed out on being named to the all-WDA team, falling one stroke back of tying for ninth place at the West Region Tournament.

He shot an 82 and 78 at the Class A state tournament, finishing in a tie for 28th place.

Brock Jones’ 76.45 scoring average was third best in the WDA this season, finishing behind only his Minot teammate Kasen Rostad and Century’s Lucas Schoepp. Jones shot a 2-under 70 to take medalist honors at the WDA Invite at Minot’s Souris Valley Golf Course in May. The round marked the first time in his career he broke par, and he was able to achieve the milestone in the final home tournament for the senior.

In addition to taking home medalist honors at the WDA Invite, Jones finished in the top ten at all but two events during the regular season. He also finished tied for seventh at the West Region Tournament to qualify for the All-WDA team. His rounds of 83 and 77 at the Class A state tournament were good enough to tie for 28th place with his Minot teammate Rostad.

The pair helped lead Minot to a sixth-place finish in the team standings at the state tournament, as well as picking up wins at the Minot, Dickinson and Mandan Invites. The team also finished as runner-up at the Watford City, Legacy, WDA and Williston Invites, and the West Region Tournament. The Magi finished no worse than fourth place in any West Region event this season.
